Violence

Val felt compelled to scout the entire area.

He couldn't resist! When would he get a similar opportunity again?

Val wouldn't have actually gotten up to explore, if not for external factors coming into play.

  He was now determined to find all the interesting things that might be hidden close by;

It was a strange feeling. He didn't recognize what was going on, yet his curiosity only grew.

It grew to unmanageable points. To points where it would feel like a crime was being committed for not exploring.

So that's what Val did. He got up, not thinking of the consequences this might create, and started scouring like a madman.

  Or rather, a mad-angel.

About five minutes in, he found this narrow alleyway with a nice gem shop. He of course entered and looked at all the pretty stones, even though that was never something that interested him-yet he still found joy in looking around.

About eleven minutes in, he returned to the main square dissatisfied with his findings, only to notice that the crowd had grown even more than when he was walking with his mother. In any other circumstance, he would have returned to waiting. But the crowd didn't stop him this time. The irritation that was usually present simply failed to appear.

About twenty-five minutes in, he had climbed up a small hill, far away from where he had started his search. There were also no people around, so that's a plus.

Val spotted a small shrine atop the peak of said hill, and looked at it with a certain glimmer in his eyes. Did he finally find something that was worth his restless search? He upped his pace, exhilarated. What's going on?

Val quickly turned around, and saw the amazing view. He could see most of the capital from there.

Not like it's a very big city. Just the right size for it's population.

He could even spot his dads' temple, quite far away. He realized he really knew so little about that person.

Would his life be any different if his dad wasn't God?

His expression turned from excited to concerned, as if breaking from a spell.

Quickly, he shook his head, looking toward the ground. Once he returned to walking, his thoughtful look had vanished, and a smile plagued his face once more-almost automatic.

None of this was like him.

Val would rarely smile, even when excited about something.

Somewhere behind him, observing, was the 'external factor' that led to all of this happening.

  It laughed, quietly.

Val had reached the top of the hill. The small temple he had seen from a distance was now in front of him. He decided to enter.

What was he doing? Val never felt any compulsion to do any of this before today. Even though he could try exploring any day of the week.

The idea he had before-that suggested this was a once in a lifetime opportunity-was simply a lie. What had gotten into him? Even if he had gone through this reasoning already, he found himself inside the shrine, yearning for something interesting to find. And that's exactly what has hidden in that temple:

A book. Now that should be interesting!

He walked-slowly this time-toward the pedastal that was holding up the book. It was almost as if it were there to be discovered, as if it was there for him to read.

Seemed strange. In heaven, books are very precious. Usually, only high class families possessed many of them. Books were a symbol of knowledge, and useful to keep a record of it. Of course, almost everybody had at least one book, there were many that were accessible to all. This means, A book that isn't one of the classics would never be exposed like this, free to read for anybody.

  Upon getting closer, Val found the book to be larger than any normal book;

He had many in his families' possession, and he liked to read sometimes. It wasn't his favourite hobby or anything like that. This time, though, reading felt like it was the only thing he ever wanted to do. Val thought of the private library God himself had at his disposal. It was private, and it was heavily prohibited to read any of them. It was said they contained a lot of information on what stood below heaven. I'm talking about Earth, of course. Where humans lived. Angels knew more or less nothing about Earth or humans, and none of them seemed to care. But they did know of their existence.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

Could this be one of those books, from Gods' private library?

Val whole expression shifted in half a second. His smile disappeared like it was never there.

Upon this shift in emotion, val stopped walking and looked toward his shoes.

Val thought: "This is interesting. A book."

He walked toward the book, getting to a distance where he could read the title.

  "VIOLENCE"

To Val, and any other angel, that word had no meaning. Until the first page gave a definition.

  It read as follows:

"Violence is a concept present in humans' culture. It is, to simplify, the act of harming another individual."

Val froze instantly. Actually, he froze once he got to the word 'another'

Val: [Harming? another indiv.. harm... harming? harmi- another.]

The words on the book implied the possibility of acting to hurt another angel, a possibility which did not exist in their perfect world up until now.

Val started walking backwards. His eyes were fixated on where the book he was reading was placed. His hands were still, as if frozen in place once Val's brain had allowed violent concepts inside.

Angels were not made for this. Their brains were not able to produce any instincts related to anger, let alone violence. The empty space meant for this was present, though it had remained empty for hundreds of years. That day, everything changed.

Valaeron tripped on himself, falling backwards. He was breathing faster, and faster. The idea settled inside, though Val had no knowledge on how to control it.

Valaeron laid down on the temples' floor. He was breathing faster, and faster. The concept overrid any other reasoning going on, though Val tried to stop it.

Valaeron turned his head to the side, and saw a figure approaching. He was probably breathing faster than what any general purpose doctor would consider healthy. (this is a joke, i like it, but tell me if it ruins the atmosphere)

???: [Not quite what i thought would happen, but it should work out i guess.]

  Val: [Harming?]

???: [Yes, harming another. It's about time you angels got that in your 'perfect' heads. Haha. Should i even call you that? eh.]

The figure put derogatory emphasis on Angels. Then let out a laugh.

Val felt himself losing his senses.

Our favourite infected angel woke up to find his mom. She had him in the motherly embrace of her arms.

Val jumped upon seeing her, and followed up by doing what was possible to get out of her grasp. Was she trying to... Harm.. him?

Caelira: [Hey! Are you alright? What.. What happened?]

Val: [What were you doing? What.. Ha-]

Caelira: [Uhhh... What? You're freaking out. Calm down.]

Val tried to follow his mothers' advice. He tried clearing his mind, which he found basically impossible. He focused on the task at hand.

For a second, he was able to coexist with his newfound knowledge. He also understood why Gods' books were prohibited.

Once he managed to understand what he had learned, many things he didn't know just clicked. Even though he wasn't ready to live with the new information, even just a second of clarity helped.

  Val fixed his posture.

  Val: [S-Sorry. I'm g- I think, i think i'm go-good.]

  Caelira had a worried face.

Caelira: [Okay.. I'll accompany you home, alright?]

Val: [Yeah, okay. Ac- Actually, i'm.. i'm fin- Didn't i hav a... a uhm.. a ce- ceremony to, to attend?]

Just by the way he spoke, anyone could understand his head was not alright. Many things were jumbled up, difficult for Val to read from.

The walk home was hard. Val was constantly alert, ready to defend from angels who had intentions to harm..

Was everyone trying to hurt him?

Crowds were more difficult now than ever.

That night, Val didn't sleep. Not because he couldn't, but because he didn't want to.

Someone might come harm him while asleep.
