80-) Dungeon Again (1)

  Year 1451, month 10, day 04

  “Mas… aste… ster. Mas…er… Master. Master!”

I opened my eyes to a voice that seemed to be struggling to find its rhythm. At first, the sound was garbled and difficult to understand, but as the fog of sleep began to lift, I realized someone was urgently calling for me. I opened my eyes fully, my vision sharpening as I looked at the person beside my bed. Wyn had raised her voice slightly to wake me, a move that sobered me up instantly.

This was the first time in quite a while—perhaps the first time since I arrived in this world—that I had slept deeply enough for someone else to wake me. Usually, even after I had purchased the girls, I was already awake and waiting by the time they came to check on me. Regardless of the change in routine, being woken up like this wasn't a bad feeling at all.

“Master, the breakfast is ready. Please come down if you want to eat.”

I stayed silent for a moment, simply observing her. She spoke as elegantly as she usually does, a testament to the rigorous training she had received. However, despite her attempts to maintain a professional mask, she looked distinctly shy. I could see a faint, unmistakable redness creeping into her cheeks.

“... Yes, Wyn, thank you… And good morning.”

I smiled, acknowledging the cute side of her that was trying so hard to hide her feelings.

“... Yes, good morning, master,” she replied, finally raising her head to meet my eyes with a small smile of her own.

I didn't waste any time. I got up and headed downstairs with Wyn to eat. We finished our breakfast quickly, and once the meal was done, I gave the girls their instructions: they were to clean the dishes and then immediately put on the equipment we had purchased. Since my own armor takes significantly more time to properly equip than theirs, I calculated that we would all be finished and ready to meet at the front door at roughly the same time.

My prediction was accurate. As soon as I finished buckling my last piece of equipment and stepped out of my room, I saw the girls emerging from theirs. They both noticed me and turned to offer their greetings.

  “Are you ready?” I asked.

“Yes, master,” they replied in unison.

“Good. Let’s go then… To the dungeon.”

If I were traveling alone, I would have used Warp to reach the dungeon instantly, perhaps even appearing directly on the floor I intended to clear. However, since I was with the girls, we took the long way and walked to the entrance. We are located close enough that I didn't mind the stroll; it gave them a chance to learn the route and enjoy a walk through the city together. I’ll show them the Warp ability another time.

Yargan is a massive trading city. Its location is strategic, sitting close to the border between the Targonia Kingdom and the Hazaroth Union, and it isn't far from the border of the Ottovard Empire either. Because it sits on the main path toward the heart of the Hazaroth Union, it is a bustling hub that sees a constant stream of visitors.

The city is geographically divided into two parts: the Inner City and the Outer City. In most places, you’d expect a simple circular layout where one wall covers the other, but Yargan is different. It’s structured as if two separate cities were built side-by-side. The city is nestled against a mountain range, specifically within a canyon that cuts between two peaks. The inner city is built deep within that canyon.

The outer city begins at the mouth of the canyon and extends out to the main defensive walls. These outer walls form a half-circle, stretching from one mountain to the other and completely covering the entrance to the inner city. This design makes the inner city incredibly secure despite being much larger than the outer section. The outer city serves as the primary defensive station and the main trading center for those arriving from outside the country. You can find almost anything there, and it’s the place to go if you’re searching for rare or valuable items.

The inner city, by contrast, feels like a more traditional metropolitan area. It is divided into several districts: management, trading, residence, and the dungeon district. The canyon itself extends toward the northeast, and the dungeon entrance is located at the very end of that stone corridor. The entire canyon is vast—much larger than Targashar, the first city I visited in this world. Since our home is in the north-northwest residence district, the dungeon is only a ten-minute walk away.

“You are already at my party. Just stay right behind me as we go in.”

  “Yes, master.”

I had already added Woya and Wyn to my party before we left the house. Woya looked visibly tense, and I could see Wyn cast a worried glance toward her sister, likely thinking about Woya's lack of experience. Still, they followed me without hesitation. I had no intention of throwing them into a life-or-death struggle against a high-level monster right away. There was no reason to hurry.

As we stepped into the dungeon entrance, a selection panel appeared in my vision. I’ve explored as far as the 21st floor, but I knew that would be too dangerous for them. I selected the first floor. As the environment materialized around us, Woya and Wyn appeared right by my side. The first ten floors of this dungeon are virtually identical to the Targashar Dungeon.

I used to wonder if all dungeons shared the same interior design and monster types. Since I haven't been back to Targashar, I couldn't be sure then, but I know now that most dungeons share the same monster types until the 11th floor. After that point, the monsters start to change based on the specific environment of the dungeon.

“Here we are. What do you think of your first dungeon?” I asked.

“I-it is a bit dark,” Woya whispered.

“... It is mysterious, master,” Wyn added. “Are we going to fight monsters right away?”

“Yes, but don't worry. The deeper you go, the stronger the monsters become. Since this is your first time, we're starting on the first floor. The only monsters here are Slimes, so you could defeat them even with your bare hands.”

“Thanks to the master for your consideration,” they replied.

It would be an easy start, but I still needed to check their status panels to see where they stood.

Wyn had acquired the Dungeon Raider job without any trouble. She also had the jobs I expected: Swordsman and Hunter, which naturally complement her Beast Warrior job. Her stats reflect the fact that she isn't human. I noticed a similar pattern with Namo, my previous slave; different races have different stat priorities. Wolfkin like Wyn have naturally high Sense and Charisma, which I've started to interpret as a combination of sharp instincts and their fit, attractive appearances. Looking at her panel, it was clear that Beast Warrior was currently her strongest option.

Woya's base stats were identical to Wyn's.

“Woya, did you ever go to hunt like Wyn too?” I asked, noticing her Hunter job.

“Huh? Yes, master. Even though I didn't like it much and tried to avoid it, I went with the hunting group a few times. I wasn't much help, but I did manage to defeat an injured wolf and land the finishing blow on a boar once.”

That explained it. She had earned the job from those few kills. However, her Villager job level was too low to unlock Dungeon Raider yet—she needed at least level 10 for that. For now, I’d keep their jobs as they were, but I wanted to define their roles in the party.

Since Woya carries a shield, she needs to focus on a role that suits her gear. She won’t be a "tank" who absorbs all the damage yet—she's too inexperienced for that. Instead, she will be the Front Shield Unit, responsible for blocking attacks that come specifically in her direction. As for Wyn, I want to see her performance first; she’ll act as our Damage Dealer, using her dual swords to take down the monsters that Woya holds in place.

“Okay, girls. Let’s move forward. Our fighting style will be…”

I explained our formation to them, and then we began our search for our first prey.
