Goodness Knows: The Price of Mercy? follows a young boy who spent his life in an orphanage until he turned 18 and was kicked out into the streets. Despite trying to be good, he fell into a life of crime and eventually ended up in the space prison known as Tartarus, where the most dangerous killers are kept. Halfway through his sentence, an alien force attacks, releasing organic blobs composed primarily of meat and other organic tissue they have absorbed from living beings. His cell door slides open, and as he rounds the corner, he saves an 8-year-old girl from one of the creatures and decides to help her escape instead of abandoning her. Over time, they develop a father-daughter-like relationship. In the end, he pushes her into an escape pod as thousands of these creatures come after them, sacrificing himself for her. In his final moments, as his life flashes before his eyes, he remembers a lesson from a young lady he'd once spared: there is good in every person; you just have to figure out how to bring it to the surface.
