288. Creamy Waffles

  Breakfast in the Wright household.

  8:30 am.

This wasn't any ordinary family breakfast.

Or, at least, like any other ordinary family breakfast...

After all, Rose Wright was, as many would say, had they known her...

  No ordinary teenage girl...

To say nothing of her powers, of course...

  But also...

  Rose: There!

The teenage girl had walked downstairs and now found herself surrounded by several assortments of packed foods...

The sorts of which fit the criteria...

Sweet, colorful and easy to eat.

What the teenage girl had settled for today, in regard to how late she was...

Was a pack of cream waffles...

  Great to the taste...

And easy to find in your local supermarket...

But also, on the pricier side...

  But even so, most importantly...

They were ready to eat from the moment she'd opened the pack.

  Yep.

  That was her breakfast...

Coupled of course with a glass of tea...

To which she added a generous amount of sugar.

  8:32 am.

It wasn't so much that it remained at the bottom...

But it was enough that it surely made it so that the tea was definitely not exactly tea anymore.

But that was just the way she liked it.

  Sweet.

  As for the creamy waffles...

They were layered in with a thick and generous creamy strawberry paste...

One that seeped out of her mouth as she took the first bite...

  A bite that...

  Most ordinarily...

This teenage girl would take the time to savour.

  Buuuuuuut...

  This time...

She knew she was off schedule...

  And of it, well...

  Not by much.

The fact of the matter was...

This was far from the first time she had been late...

As a matter of fact, she knew she could even call Luke to come pick her up if the worst case scenario came to be...

That had to be the case on at least one situation in the past.

  And of that scenario...

She decided to herself that she had to eat just a bit faster to make up for it.

Rose Wright, unlike the others, did go to school on foot...

After all, even compared to Max...

Her own home was much closer to their school...

  But that much being said...

Rose knew for a fact that she did have to be ready soon, and that she would definitely be there about 5 to 10 minutes before she was out of time.

  That was...

  Usually...

  What happened.

Ken would come first, then Tiffany, then her...

  And lastly...

  Luke.

  That was usually what happened.

  8:33 am.

The strawberry paste was so thick and yet, so rich, that it managed to drip down on her plate as she ate.

Those were some good creamy waffles.

  Definitively.

And as for the tea, well...

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

She could say a lot of things of her choice of beverage...

However, the idea to take tea did indeed come from Tiffany Chang...

After all, where else would she learn these things from?

  And of cooking...

The fact remained that Rose Wright could indeed attempt to cook...

  But...

There just wasn't enough time for all that.

After all, what made her mornings so easy was the fact that she always had something from the back of her fridge.

After all, the sheer size of it would scare many...

  And of that...

The tea may not have been the perfect beverage to take with waffles...

As a matter of fact, she may have preferred milk had she tried it...

But, she ate it all the same, and of that...

  Did she take huge bites...

But also, did she fail to forget to chew carefully.

This was a part of what she'd learned from her best friend...

  "In the worst situations...

  ... keep your cool."

And even still, she wasn't that late.

She could still make it in time as long as she walked a bit faster to school.

  That much she could tell.

And as she ate her breakfast, her mind did what it would usually do.

Cross-check everything to make sure she was ready to learn...

School to Rose Wright was many things...

For one, it was sort of an adventure...

After all, she was an alien...

And many, many of the things she'd seen on earth...

  Were oh-so new to her.

If she saw a basketball, that was a new experience...

  If she saw a puppy...

  That was another new experience...

Even human customs were new to her...

After all, she came from a land where everybody was psychic.

And that, in and of itself, was a long, long story...

One she'd never really told the entirety of...

  For varying reasons...

In any case, this was her time to think.

Rose: (Books ready... Fishies checked on and fed, and I'm ready for that thing...)

  Yep.

  100% ready.

  She was sure now.

The only thing she needed to do then and there was to eat breakfast and get to school.

  8:34 am.

  And there she was...

In the dead silence of her own house.

  The Wright residence was huge...

  Classy...

Heck, even their dining room looked almost as though it was made to host parties somewhat...

  Albeit not extremely large parties...

Up above her was a gigantic chandelier...

Filled with many small almost diamond-like ornaments.

"It was pretty," that much she could say about it.

But even so, was the room silent.

  Empty.

In fact, it was deathly silent...

Not a word or a sound...

  Anywhere.

And that was exactly how Rose Wright ate her breakfast...

  In the silence...

  8:35 am.

It was then that Rose began to think about what would happen that day.

Of course, the number one thing on the agenda being...

  ... meeting her friends.

  Rose Wright...

To the very bottom of her heart...

Found this to be the very number one reason as to why she enjoyed going to school...

  Simply and only...

  To see her friends...

They were the reason as to why, unlike many, she was actually quite glad to go to school.

  That was just her...

And a lot could be said about it...

After all, it was them that she thought of almost immediately after.

Rose: (thinking: Tiff's gonna be so concerned... So is Luke... And even Ken...)

It had not failed to dawn on this teenage girl that they all...

  And them all...

Would still be concerned about him...

  8:36 am.

And with that, she took another bite of her creamy waffles...

Rose: (thinking: Luke's gonna be super busy today. Maybe I should buy him something.)

  That thought...

Fell in reference with what was to occur that day...

After all, she knew full well that Luke was the one who was gonna be busy all day long.

  Well...

  He wasn't the only one...

  Rose: (thinking: Oh, Tiff too!)

  That was another one...

  And that was Rose Wright...

After all, her heart beat for her friends...

They were the ones she looked forward to seeing everyday.

As a matter of fact, it wouldn't be the worst thing to say...

That they were the whole reason she went to school in the first place.

  Tiffany, Luke, Ken, and now...

  Yep.

It had dawned on her what the major focus of her day would be...

  Maximillian Hunter.

  Him.

She could already see him in her mind...

  Those blue eyes...

  His brown hair...

  But most of all...

  His cocky smile...

  And his absolute arrogance...

All of a sudden, the waffles in her mouth tasted sweeter, until they didn't.

  Not that they tasted bitter...

  It was just that...

They suddenly stopped tasting like anything...

Almost as though her mind forgot about the taste...

It was there, and it also...

  Was not...

  That was a perplexing thing...

  One she would have considered...

Had she had her mind on it...

Because as her thoughts went on about this...

She did also consider this question...

"What would she say to Max?"

  Now that was truly perturbing...

  8:37 am.

She'd told him before that she would be there for him...

  But still...

  This pain in her heart...

  Her desire to help...

She'd by this time already eaten her first few waffles...

And thereof, only had a few left.

  What would she do...

  What would she say...

  Nothing?

  Was that a good idea?

  Well...

  Her heart would absolutely disagree...

After all, it would never accept such an answer...

  That...

Would just so happen to be the power of the heart...

  Absolute refusal of such ideas.

  8:38 am.

And even still, Rose did wonder...

What would Max be doing at that very moment...

And it was then and there that it suddenly dawned on Rose...

That the first time she'd ever met him was on their way to school.

It was a sort of series of quick and rapid thoughts, each of them, calling her to action...

Just as she thought of what Max would be doing or feeling at that time...

She suddenly thought of what Max would probably be doing at that time...

Before she finally started to think of this...

How she could potentially meet him if she waited outside her door...

After all, he seemed to take the exact same path to school...

And of that, then came the sudden realization...

  She was late...

And so there was no way that was happening unless he himself was also late...

And after that, came the rapid re-realization...

  That she was late.

At that, she suddenly and hurriedly bit into her next waffle and started to chew hurriedly...

  Taking a sip of tea...

Before once again remembering Tiffany's words...

"Don't panic. Just calm down. Think clearly..."

  And remembering to herself...

That this still wasn't late enough that she needed to worry...

  After all...

She'd made it to school with less time on her hands.

However, this time, she did indeed pick up the pace.

Each bite, slightly faster than the last ones before she'd made this realization.

Even still, she took her sips as she pondered upon the way to school.

  8:39 am.

"It wouldn't take too long." she thought.

But she also knew that she would likely be just a few minutes off the clock.

  Say...

  2 or 3.

With that, she took the last bite of her sumptuous meal...

And even still, the last sip of her sweetened tea...

Before orderly getting up, and setting them both in the sink.

She would have to clean them later...

  That much she knew...

And of it, with a backpack and with her phone at the ready...

  She started her journey...

  Out the door...

  Into the path...

  8:40 am.

And on the way to school...

It was a simple winding path...

A left here, a right there...

  Nothing truly special...

A few traffic stops here and there...

But through it and through it all...

Rose Wright remained calm and simply took a brisk walk...

This much she had learned from the girl by the name of Tiffany Chang...

  Stay calm and stay focused.

And of it, she did in fact make it to school on time.

  8:57 am.

  Lars: Mornin' lil' lady.

  Rose: Morning Lars.

She said this with a big smile on her face as Lars characteristically tipped his hat off to her.

She too, had become used to conversations like these.

  Lars: You doin' good?

Rose: Uh huh? How are you?

  Lars: I'm good. I'm good.

And with that, the teenage girl made it to class.
