The next week went by as normal, Trixie didn't get why all the Knights were so stressed and jumping at shadows (Even if she had much fun being those shadows that made them jumpy).
Papa didn't seem to be as stressed about it like the Knights and people that came and went from the playground, Trixie didn't knew why they were that stressed, it was just a play war anyway. What did it matter?
Besides, it wasn't them who started it, but the baddies! It was of course something that would go their way, just like how it had gone with the attack on her birthday! (So rude! Who attacks on birthdays!?!?!?!)
But well, Trixie couldn't change how people thought (She could, but Papa got angry every time Trixie used the ToyBox for that, something about it being bad for the people if Trixie mixed their brain juices or something).
No, that wasn't the issue, nor how much fun Trixie got from scaring the Knights (She suspected a few acted surprised and weren't actually surprised, mostly the newbies, they didn't know better yet).
No, the problem was something else, something that could alter all the power balance within the house, something that was an actual threat for Trixie White, the Daughter of White. The heroine of Manhattan, the hidden ruler of The Financial District!
Trixie... Trixie was...
"He is your new tutor, Miss Mary Lindon Tayer," Papa had plucked her out of a bush; she was planning to surprise them when they went past her! "She will be coming a few days a week to teach you..."
"But Trixie already knows stuff!" Trixie heckled as she tried to regain her freedom, alas, it was impossible, she felt like a baby kitten being carried by the scruff, "She has the ultimate teacher! Life!"
She had heard a couple of the newbie peeps that joined their family fang say that before, something about life being the best teacher or whatnot.
Trixie didn't think it was true, but it felt appropriate to use as a defense! And she would use it for her freedom!
"I see, she is indeed quite a very smart young woman as you said Master White." The old woman said nodding at Trixie, "Did this life you speak also teach you how to do additions?"
Additions?
Trixie could add all kinds of things already!
Actually...
"Yes!" Trixie said as she frowned extra hard and tried to add to the old woman a few reasons why she would need to leave running this place! She had no need for an old woman bothering her! Shoo!
"I am waiting, or do you want me to give you an example?" The old woman said as she batted her hand as if she was shooing a bug, but Trixie knew better! She could see it! She was batting away the influence of the ToyBox!
What kind of monster was this?!?!?
"Here," The old woman said pulling a notebook from her stylish bag and a pen, there she wrote the numbers 2+2 = 4 and 3+1=4, and lastly 1+2 =? "Can you do this one?"
Of course Trixie could! Who did she think she was? A dumb girl? Trixie White was anything but dumb! She had sat through countless teachers! She knew more than the average girl!
"Yes!" Trixie said extending her hands to pick up the notebook and the pen, "This is the answer!"
Trixie then proceeded to write in the most overly dramatic and coolz(With Z because it was that coolz) style possible the correct answer, Trixie had used all her expertise to decipher the actual answer, not the hidden trap answer, not the fake answer, not even the wrong answer!
This was the absolute truth of the universe!
"Wrong," WHAT?!?!?!? "The answer was this."
The old woman then pulled out a new pen and wrote beside Trixie's ultimate answer a 3.
"B-b-But..." Trixie stammered as the world all around her was breaking down, she was absolutely sure of her answer, "If it was 4 in the first, and it was 4 in the second... shouldn't it be 4 in the third too?"
THAT WAS THE OBVIOUS ANSWER WASN'T?!?!?!
HOW COULD IT BE ANYTHING BUT 4?!?!!? WHAT KIND OF WITCHCRAFT WAS THIS?!?!?
"If it was 0+4 or 1+1+2 then yes, it would be 4." The old woman said, nodding to Trixie, writing those complex mathematical equations akin to witchcraft in the notebook... no, this was no notebook, this was a grimoire! Trixie knew it! "But if you have one apple... then I give you two extra apples... how many apples do you get?"
Trixie grabbed the imaginary apples that the woman had mentioned...
If she had one... then got another two... With each imaginary apple Trixie raised a fingie...
"This many?" Trixie said showing all the fingies that she had raised.
"Correct!" The old woman said, applauding, truly marveled at Trixie's deduction capabilities, "You are indeed a very smart girl."
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"Heheheheh," The old woman truly knew what was best, "Trixie is the smartestest of all, she has sat through countless teachers!"
"You have?" The old woman said nodding sagely at Trixie, "Good, that means that the smarter you are, the less I will need to teach you, that is good."
Wait... she was staying?
"I will need the syllabus that she learned, what she knows and what she struggles with." The old woman said turning to Papa, "Unless you think it's better for me to start from the ground up? I do prefer that approach since that means I can accommodate as best, and it allows me to waste the least amount of time since I will not need to guess if she dominates or not the subjects."
Papa thought about that, he was still holding Trixie by the scruff, so she was currently kicking the air, it was kind of fun actually... Good thing Trixie's clothes had the scruff ready for Papa to lift her, so she wasn't uncomfortable or having trouble breathing, like other girls who didn't have dressed with scruff ready for pick up. Honestly, weaker dresses.
"From the ground up," Papa ended up saying that, "I'd rather Trixie have the best possible foundation, we will be enrolling her to school next year, so the more she is ready the better."
School? Trixie would go to school? But when was she supposed to play then?
"Do you want me to go only for mundane...?" The old woman asked turning to Trixie, her eyes flashing with purple light for a second, "Or the whole set?"
"All of it," Papa answered, ignoring how that woman had eyes that shone in the same color as Trixie's for a second there, "As much as you are able, we will get the needed money."
"The wage will not change, I don't charge extra to ensure my students are prepared." The woman said, shaking her head, "My accommodations are ready?"
Papa nodded at the woman and then turned to the side, snapping his fingers at one of the Knights near the mansion.
"Yes," And said as much when the Knight arrived, "He will guide you to your room, is near Trixie's playroom. A maid will find you later to discuss allergies you may have and to tell you how to get food and guide you through all the amenities you will have available."
The woman nodded.
"I will only work towards educating and taking care of Trixie." The woman said narrowing her eyes, "No extra work."
"Understandable, we will not require anything more from you. We have maids ready for everything else, you may use them as you see fit so long that work is put towards Trixie." Papa added nodding, "So long Trixie benefits, everyone and everything within the White Concord is at your service, that includes all my men and myself."
"Very generous," The old woman said turning to stare at Trixie, "Don't you think, Trixie was it?"
"Trixie is called Trixie White!" Trixie said nodding, "And Papa has always been generous like that! That is because he is the best Papa all around!"
"That he is... So, that is your full name then? Trixie White?" The woman said as her eyes shone in purple for another couple of seconds, before turning to Papa, "That is... quite avant-garde, is it not?"
"Yeah. The wife was ahead of her time." Papa said in a sad tone, "But that is neither here nor now, when can you start the classes?"
The what?!?!?!?
"You have hired one of the best Nannies the Tower can provide," The old woman said, "Everything will be a class, aren't you looking forward it Trixie?"
Trixie shook her head as fast as possible from side to side. She just wanted to play!
"You say that, but what if... We could learn and drink juice at the same time?" Then the old woman did the impossible, she pulled from her stylish bag a pitcher filled with juice, and a sippy cup... The famed sippy cup...
You could either sip from the cup, or use it as a normal cup... That was technology ahead of its time! (Quite literally around fifty years ahead of its time)
"....Trixie is listening," Trixie was listening as much as possible, she was opening all her ears for this (She had two), "How... How could Trixie learn while drinking juice?"
She was thirsty, she was a thirsty Trixie, jumping all day long (A couple of hours) to scare the newbies was tiring.
"Easy, let's go over to that tree and set up a picnic for now." The old woman said as she stowed away the pitcher with juice and the sippy cup, "Can you tell your men to move my luggage to my room? I will search for a maid to guide me there when today's lesson is done."
Papa let Trixie's feetsies touch the ground and nodded to one of the Knights of White that was near, not one of the newbies of course, "They will remain nearby, when you are done they can guide you back to your room." The Knight in question saluted Papa and then stood three steps behind Trixie.
"...I wouldn't want to impose..." The old woman said looking at the Knight of White, "But I guess I can understand your stance on this. Your daughter must be very important to you if you are willing to go this far."
"Yes," Papa said nodding, "I would burn this world to keep Trixie safe."
"... That is a very interesting phrasing, more so since having burnt down the world would mean your daughter would be left in a torched world." The old woman answered back, "But you aren't my student, so you may do as you please. Let's go Trixie."
And like that the woman walked towards the tree, leaving behind Trixie and Papa.
"If you think something is off, tell the Knight." Papa said as he kneeled in front of Trixie, "And... if you can, try to not use the ToyBox too much with her nearby."
She couldn't?
"... She is like the cheater," Trixie said turning to Papa, "Is that why Trixie shouldn't use her Toybox?"
Would that mean that... She would need to... Actually work?
"Yes, she is someone I commissioned from the Mage Tower. So she may find out why you are special." Papa said, patting Trixie, "She has a contract that forbids her from sharing that information, but even so, if you can stop her from finding out, that is for the better."
The mage tower?
Trixie... didn't know what that was. She remembered a few of the teachers that had come to the mansion were from there, but honestly, they hadn't paid that much attention to Trixie at that time.
"Okey!" Even so, Trixie nodded and after giving Papa a smooch, she ran towards the juice Pitcher! I mean, towards the old woman! Yes!
When she arrived, Trixie found a picnic, there was a blanket on the ground so they could sit, the juice pitcher, some sandwiches, a napkin for Trixie and the old woman sitting there drinking from a tea cup.
"Do sit Trixie," The old woman said, "I will now formally introduce myself."
The old woman said as soon as Trixie sat and started nibbling on the sandwich. Trixie was eating! Stop talking!
"My name is Mary Lindon Travers, I am a teacher at the Mage Tower. Occasionally I am a private teacher too, but my main vocation, and what I love doing the most..." The old woman said taking a sip from her tea cup waiting for Trixie to stop nibbing at the sandwich, fine! She would pay attention, "Is being a private Nanny. I love nothing else but dedicating my whole time to the raising of the new generation of talents, nurturing is truly the best way to ensure our future."
Trixie would nod at that, she wasn't sure why, but it sounded important!
"Now it's your turn, when someone introduces themselves, you should do the same, that is the polite thing to do." The old woman said taking a bite out of a sandwich, why was she looking so smug and elegant while Trixie didn't felt like that, and they both had done the same thing! She truly was cheating too!
"Trixie is Trixie White!" Trixie said standing and puffing her chest out, "She is the daughter of Papa, the coolezt Papa of all, and he has the title to prove it, because Papa is The King of White!"
The old woman clapped at Trixie's announcement, as it was obvious, the Knight of White with them clapped a few seconds after, this was a part that Trixie hated of her Toys, they didn't react as fast in some things! She would need to tweak this one so it would clap faster next time.
"That is a cool way of introducing your father yes," The woman said taking another bite of the sandwich and covering her mouth with a napkin while she chewed, so elegant! "But the normal people wouldn't understand what you mean with The King of White. So maybe don't use it unless you know for sure they will understand it, if not it could give them misunderstanding, you wouldn't want them to misunderstand would you?"
Trixie wouldn't!
"Then you didn't understand?" Trixie asked worried, "Do you have the dum?"
Such a sadge thing to happen, if only Trixie could use her ToyBox to fix her... She didn't like when people had the dum.
"....No, I do understand what you meant," The old woman said, shaking her head and taking another sip from her teacup, "But that is because I did my due diligence and studied what I would find when coming here... I found something quite interesting, more interesting than I had expected."
The old woman had smilled mysteriously at Trixie at that point, that gave Trixie the shivers...
"Originally I only came to evaluate you and decide who would be the better choice as a teacher, as Albert White had offered quite the generous contract," The old woman smirked, "Who would have guessed I would find someone as promising as you. It makes me almost be happy because we lost the other contract."
"You had other job?" Trixie asked intrigued at that, if she had other job then she could go there and leave Trixie alone!
"We didn't manage to finalize it, Mister Greenvale didn't want her daughter to have a Nanny, he said she was old enough to not need one." The old woman said shrugging, "He isn't wrong of course, that girl is almost sixteen now..."
...Sixteen? GreenVale? The greens? She was going to be the Nanny of the greens? SHE WAS GOING TO WORK FOR THE BADDIES?!?!?!?
"But that will never come to pass, as I am now your Nanny. And all my duties are towards your education." The old woman said smiling mysteriously at Trixie, "So, tell me Trixie. What do you know about Magic?"
