Chapter 1: Dragon tribes
Millions of years ago, dragons ruled the land. Earth was divided into 10 regions, each to one tribe. Each tribe had its main element and its mother tree. Far in the north, the Ice dragon tribe dwelled. They have glassy, cold and ice-blue scales. They exhaled freezing ice breaths and they were weaker in hot regions.
In the east, where the sun rises first, the Fire dragon tribe depended on sunlight to feed them. They are often red or gold like the sun. They can exhale scorching fire from their mouth.
Water dragons swim in the south, where rivers flow and oceans grow. They have scales like the sea, and they depend on water to survive. They shoot powerful jets of water from their jaws.
Where the sun sets in the West, Shadow dragons glide. They are black in color, and they keep to themselves. One bite from their poisonous fangs can kill many. They breathe out a cloud of darkness out of their mouth, making their prey confused.
From the sky is the Sky dragon tribe, with gold or white jade scales that represent the glory and pride of their kingdom. They are swift in the air and quick when attacking. They can use sonar to detect prey and predators, and they can breathe fire.
In the middle of Earth, surrounded by tribes, is the mother tree of nature. Around the mother tree, the Nature dragon tribe set up nets, traps, and their homes around the tree to protect it. They planted more trees to make a dense rainforest and their food source was fruits, vegetables and occasionally meat if they went hunting. Nature dragons have green scales, sometimes topped with a little gold since they were cousins with the Sky dragons. Their scales helped them blend into the environment when they hunted or when they were avoiding detection. They are smart, swift on land, and they could breathe seeds that sprung into full-grown plants, trapping prey or predators.

On an island in an ocean, in between the water dragons and shadow dragons were the lightning dragons. They could conjure storms, rain, and lightning. They lived on a fairly big island, far away from any other tribe, for they kept to themselves and didn’t want to cause trouble with their storms. They were the color of storm clouds, and usually had a white patch around their eyes.
Portal dragons were rare to see. Their scales were a swirling mix of colors of the galaxy, and they could breathe out stardust to create portals. With the portals they make, they could travel to many different dimensions or areas. Other dragons sought after the portal dragons if they wanted to go to the Crystal caves.
The crystal caves was in a place unknown to anyone, not even the Portal dragons. Once portals opened to the caves, dragons often found themselves in a field which seemed to be floating about freely in space. Ahead, 12 caves with translucent crystal lit up the dark areas. Only 12 crystal dragons were known to the other dragons, and they were very old yet still agile. Crystal dragons lived in crystal caves, had crystal spines and dark blue scales and intelligent eyes. They traded crystals or anything they found to other dragons, and they were often known as crystal traders.
Last of all was the miner dragons. They lived in mines randomly dug across any land, but not without permission, and often traded what they found in the mine with other dragons. Often it was silver, gold or bronze. Other days it would be rainbow stones, pieces of unicorn horns or reflective metals. Miner dragons mined with pickaxes all day long, keeping what they want and trading the rest. This resulted in the miner dragons hanging his or her greatest finds on their body, so their purple-greenish scales are not too obvious. Their mother tree is a mystery.
