Chapter 18 - Aethernus Vhal Smiles Upon You

  The Breach Spark split reality.

A pulse of light stretched from it and into the sky far above. Separating the cloudy day above into a clear one without a single cloud as far as Aethernus Vhal could see.

Whatever manipulated this thing was a being of theatrics, it seemed to him.

Giant, metal infused hands pushed past the rift and held its edges. That was the gargantuan figure he felt move behind the Breach Spark just moments ago.

Aethernus Vhal waited patiently for whatever this was to come through so he could kill it. Or maybe should he meet it within the Warp. Ruin it where it thought it had the most amount of power. So many choices yet so little opportunities to take advantage of them. In the end, he decided to let it come through. He wanted to feel what a true Breach was for the peoples of this world.

  This was exactly that.

  Breach Spark: Spiraling Power Vector

  Anomaly Present: Witnessed

Breach Spark Growth -> Full Breach

Warning: Containment Failure Metrics Have All Been Met!

  Prepare for war!

The system agreed with his observation. Sending him the necessary information based on his knowledge. What had been a Breach Spark had turned into a full Breach once he challenged the owner of it so brazenly.

Aethernus Vhal smiled underneath the helm.

From the vast distance, he heard horns and alarms of danger sounding from StreamWalk town. The Warden and Mira had felt the change within the air or more aptly, they got the same exact system message he received. Or maybe it was the pulse of light that split the sky. It was a couple hours early, but not enough to have caught them completely off guard either. Not that it mattered at all if Aethernus Vhal was being honest with himself.

Nothing special would get around him.

StreamWalk’s army would march here ready for battle and find nothing but remnants he had yet to kill. If they got here early enough or were lucky enough to find flanking creatures that had been too wide to be in his sphere of battle–

The hands holding onto the rift opening flexed and the Breach shrieked open. Chaos and Miasma energies flooded the world around them.

Aethernus Vhal let the familiar energies wash upon his frame.

Being outside of them for so long was a strange feeling he felt now. How long had he walked them? How many False Deities had he killed. Champions of Chaos he decapitated and tore to shreds? How many armies and indomitable forces had he crushed under his fists time and again?

Praven and his friend panicked behind him. Shouting and screaming for Aethernus Vhal to retreat.

  The thought was insult enough.

Did they not recognize what he was? How much longer would it take until understanding dawned upon them. He was not here except for a mission. One he intended to accomplish without failure. These Breach things had hunted Humanity long enough. Now, it was their turn to be hunted and eliminated. Killed down to the last of their existing members.

None shall escape his Endless War.

“Go,” Aethernus Vhal waved them away. “Let me sunder these forces. Annihilate them from whence they were born,” he raised the Fell Titan’s blade and pointed it at the rift. He could feel the mana in the world already reacting to his existence better than that his first attempt at Meteor’s Fell Cleave against the pathetic scouting force the mastermind and orchestrator of this situation had sent. “Come. Bring me more to kill, Warp Fiend.”

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

The Breach responded by widening enough to allow for entire war machines and battalions of armies to march through. Instead, it puked Void-Being monsters.

Hundreds within moments that charged at him.

“Aethernus Vhal!” Praven shouted over the roars and tide surging toward them. A mass of flesh, teeth, bodies, and ill intent. “There has to be hundreds already! We have to retreat! We can meet up with the rest of the army and face them properly with defenses set up and allies to stand beside us! Shoulder to shoulder!”

He did not respond as he closed his eyes to get a better feel of this foreign energy.

  Mana.

Aethernus Vhal could have waded through these things without it. Tore and killed until they gave up and ran with tails tucked under their legs or the last of them died to his new sword and fist. But that was not enough for him now. A new weapon, to replace his blasters and bolters, had come into his hand and he intended to take full advantage of it. Mana would flow from him and it would shatter the existence of False Deities within this universe.

Just as he had done with his older weapons before. His bolter, blasters, shield, and power sword had all done grand work.

  Praven cursed behind him.

Aethernus Vhal felt the two run back toward StreamWalk and retreat.

Good. They would only get in the way.

Aethernus Vhal let the roars drown him, growing closer and closer. A hundred meters…

  Eighty meters…

  Fifty meters…

  Ten meters…

Aethernus Vhal snapped his eyes open and called upon the mana around him. All four of the Fell Titan’s Blade’s skills rumbled to life in a spark of red light that blinded everything in the surroundings. Void-Beings included. Meteor’s Fell Cleave, Domain of the Fell Titan, Fell Flames of Doom, and Spirit of the Enraged Fell Titan washed the world around him in flames.

A distant battlecry of a titan long dead echoed within the clearing.

Its domain crushed anything that entered beneath its weight and indomitable power.

Flames of bright orange, red, and purple flooded as Aethernus Vhal swung the blade. Powering both Fell Flames of Doom and Meteor’s Fell Cleave into a single blast that turned hundreds of Void Monsters into ash before him within seconds. Hundreds more slammed into the fire and burned alive.

  Yet, they were mindless.

Unthinking creatures that were designed to charge headfirst without thought.

More came and more died until the trash all died. Flames surrounded his frame. The land ruined and burned into an unrecognizable mess. Ash of his fallen foes rose around him, many more lay still covered in the Fell Fires.

Aethernus Vhal stood alone on the gentle rise of the land and overlooked the Breach. The wind carried the scent of battle to him. The all familiar pungent odor of bodies in fires. Death and rot of the Warp and more that he found reminiscent of his Endless War. Not as strong, but it gave him memories of his killing of the earliest False Deities. How inexperienced he had been.

This whole thing reminded him of the Hive-Mind infestations he had cleaned up in death worlds.

  Aethernus Vhal frowned.

The Breach rumbled as though it was laughing.

I see. That was nothing but a test. Nothing but trash. Good. I need a worthy foe every once in a while.

This rabble before had been nothing but a minor skirmish, a warm-up exercise after his long journey through the Warp.

More came out from the rift. Larger, stronger. More numerous than before. The challenge had been accepted by whoever manipulated this Breach. Aethernus Vhal was up to such a battle. He would wade through them. Kill its champion, the large monster currently holding the rift open, and then kill whoever was hiding behind the Breach without wavering an inch.

He had seen bigger things. Fought more dangerous threats.

It underestimated him, and for that it would die a brutal death.

Aethernus Vhal scanned them with his Analyze skill.

  [Mythical Analyze] Activated

  Analysis defenses ignored…

Do you wish to alert target of your [Mythical Analyze] skill on the Monsters?

  Void-Born Demons - Tier 2

The void-born demons reached the base of the rise, their front ranks beginning the short climb toward his position. Hundreds of them, then thousands as more continued to pour through the Breach. Their movements became more frantic as they detected him, sensing perhaps that he was different from the local defenders they had expected to face. And still as mad and mindless as before. Just slightly stronger.

Aethernus Vhal smiled behind his helm. The expression would have unnerved even his former battle-brothers had they witnessed it.

The hunt had found him again. He would not disappoint it.

Aethernus Vhal’s Endless War would continue on, even if it did not result in the death of a False Deity…

  This time around.
