Chapter 1
Night of the Lamp
The fire in the hearth flickered gently, casting a soft glow across the small room in a little house of the mountain village.
Beside the bed sat an elderly woman named Amna.
Under the covers, a nine-year-old boy named Maya waited eagerly for his bedtime tale.
It was a nightly ritual that had continued for many years in this little home.
Maya had been taken in by Amna before he was old enough to remember, and had grown up here without ever knowing his parents’ faces.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
But in this mountain village, everyone doted on him as if he were their own child. The people lived like one big family, and Maya had never once felt lonely.
When he stepped outside, there was always someone to greet him; sometimes he would even share a meal at another family’s table. And no matter what, when he returned home, Amna would always be there, ready to tell him another story.
That night, as the quiet day in the village came to an end, Maya pleaded in his usual way.
"Grandma, tell me a king’s story. Yesterday you told me The King and the Black Rock, so… maybe The King and the Beast’s Spear this time? Oh, but… maybe I should hear a tale about the other heroes instead."
Amna smiled at his excitement and shook her head slowly.
“There’s no need to rush, child. Stories don’t run away.”
The crackle of the fire filled the space between them.
“Tonight… I’ll tell you an old tale you’ve never heard before.”
Maya’s eyes lit up.
Amna fixed her gaze on the flames in the hearth, took a quiet breath, and began to speak in a low, gentle voice.
“Long ago, beyond many mountains, there lived a king… and four great generals…”
Maya’s heart raced at first, but before long, it was wrapped in the warmth of Amna’s calm, steady words—until, without realizing it, he drifted into a deep and peaceful sleep.
And so, in the small mountain home, the lamplight swayed quietly as the night grew deeper
