Misery pulled in front of a hotel a town over.
The blonde vampire was next to her and Koa and Julissa were in the back talking in hushed tones that she didn’t bother trying to decipher she was tired. Even the spiked.
“What.” Hissed out by Julissa or the “We’ll figure it out.” From Koa intrigued her enough.
Misery glanced at the blonde vampire and sighed pulling out her compass and opening it holding out a pill.
“It’s supposed to heal. There is a chance of it changing your hair and eye color temporarily.” Misery offered. Violet eyes narrowed distrusting as he took them.
“And how did you get these?” He asked her.
“Already told you fortunate circumstances.” She answered waiting for them to get out. Julissa was the only one who moved becoming her favorite of this group. He glared at her intensely and she didn’t back down.
“I am really getting tire of you.” He informed her with a growl. Misery motioned to the door.
“Your exit awaits you.” She presented. He continued to stare her down his jaw grinding. He reached out and she was convinced he would try to strike her again but he brushed her hair back. He held her gaze as if trying to find something. Though she felt no sign of attempted compulsion.
“Give me any reason to not think you are a problem.” The request was soft and almost a plea. It baffled her and she pulled away from his touch.
“I’m telling you the truth.” She pushed turning away. She caught his face hardening out of the corner of her eyes and she flared her fingers and shrugged. “I walked up to a creepy house to prove a point and it was the most fortunate circumstance of my life. Because the man inside didn’t have a basement full of bodies but a bad attitude and shelves full of books about things that weren’t supposed to exist but made more sense then anything else I’d ever read. And then that man died and the books became more, they became mine.” She breathed. “I never cared if they were true, but I am observant, brilliant and fearless so of course I can’t say they aren’t.” Misery offered to him.
He watched her silently then nodded.
“Those would be very dangerous books.” He offered. Misery nodded.
“Dangerous enough to have a security system that only a genius child could break.” Misery murmured. “Which is why they’re mine and no one else can have them. I don’t give a flying fuck about anyone’s hatred for anyone else. But I care about life. I care about knowledge. If I had my way my life would be in the pages of a book only letting in my people. But I feel obligated to things. Like the mini mart. The Sheriff’s worry. Grove’s example. I like poking sleeping beasts. I like causing trouble.” Misery listed, glaring at him. “That enough insight into my inner workings or you need more?” Misery asked him.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
The blonde vampire leaned his elbow onto the center consul.
“My name is Rojan.” He informed her. Misery cocked her brow at the admission shrugging.
“Cool.” She breathed and glanced at the other two vampires standing outside. She rolled down Rojan’s window. They noticed and stepped over.
“By the way Koa where were you going to take me to?” Misery asked him. Koa hesitated and his eyes flicked to Rojan.
“I meant to attempt to eraser what you knew about me and Rojan but I think in might have gone too far for that.” He admitted. Misery nodded.
“Probably wouldn’t work if you tried if the volume is correct.” Misery told him. Koa pause and frowned.
“What volume?” He asked. Misery sighed.
“The Pectorntelionica.” She pronounced carefully. Koa stiffened. Then he let out a breath. Rojan nodded.
“Well you can be assured we can’t take your books.” He informed. Misery raised her brows.
“The Pectorntelionica is a series of volumes that choose a master if you’re their chosen master no one can take them from you.” Julissa offered to her.
Misery took that in and felt as bit of pride in that.
“That actually makes a lot of sense.” Especially seeing as Grove never seemed to want the books just they were something he couldn’t get rid of.
“Now I think I have offered as much as you can expect of me. Now get out of my car. She commanded Rojan.
Rojan didn’t move and inch gripping onto the bar on the door.
“If you decide to attack me again I will cause all Hell.” Misery poked. He glared at her then rubbed his face.
“I have no intension of attacking you.” He swore to her. “Do you even know what you threw at me?” He asked her. Misery paused.
“No. It was one of Grove’s unknown spells. I don’t prefer using them but a vampire ready to attack seems like a decent emergency.” Misery told him. He nodded releasing her door and crossing his arms.
“It did. I will not be attacking you any time soon.” He told her. Misery felt a weight around her. “You bound me. You made me yours.” He hissed it out in that icy terrifying tone.
Misery took that in.
“Why in the ever-lasting fuck did Grove have a trick like that.” Misery burst out huffing. “He hated people. If I hadn’t continued to break into his home he wouldn’t have liked me.” Misery ranted trying to imagine a living creature being bound by the paranoid hermit.
“Misery.” Rojan called softly. Misery glared at him as he sat there patiently. Misery pointed out the door.
“Just go. Leave me alone to deal with this shit some other time.” Misery breathed suddenly exhausted.
Rojan moved closed ducking close.
“I will go for now but it will not change what has transpired.” He breathed.
“No but my books might.” She scuffed. Rojan was silent for a beat.
“I went to a fortune teller once.” Rojan offered. That was not something she wanted to hear about right now. She thought of her mother’s fluttery way of moving, the clients that would regularly visit to hear generalized bright fortunes and get auras cleaned. “I swore when I spoke to him I would ring his neck for the foolish prophecy he gave. Misery pressed her forehead against the steering wheel and closed her eyes. But because it reminded her of her mother she couldn’t ignore his words. “He told me he saw Misery in my future. I thought such a vague prophecy wasn’t worth what I’d put into getting it.” He let out lowly.
Misery sighed and sat up looking at him.
“Well, Rojan I showed up. Prophecy fulfilled, that doesn’t mean that I’m meant to stay. Now get out of my car.” She insisted. Rojan nodded.
“I’ll go for now but I will have to find you again.” Rojan informed her and as soon as the three vampire’s were out of her car she headed not for her own apartment but Theo’s.
