Chapter 8: After The Storm

For the next few days, Crissie rode Casper as much as she could. And her sisters rode him too. She fell off a few times but it never hurt because she was a ghost, and now so was Casper. She had learnt a lot by watching Benjamin, so it wasn’t long before Crissie and Casper were racing around the paddock like lightning.

They didn’t see much of Benjamin, and for a while, Crissie forgot all about him. He didn’t come outside much anymore.

But one day, while she was riding around the paddock, her older sister, Carla, leaned over the fence and waved her over.

“Hey, Crissie,” said Carla. “I know you’re having lots of fun riding Casper, but I need to show you something.”

“Okay,” said Crissie, and she followed Carla inside. She followed her all the way to Benjamin’s room.

Benjamin was sitting in a corner, looking very sad.

Carla pointed at him. “See,” she said. “You may have gotten a new horse but Benjamin just lost one.”

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Crissie did see. She saw that he was very sad, and it made her very sad too. “What can we do? He doesn’t know that Casper’s a ghost now.” She thought very hard. How could they make Benjamin feel better?

Byron came into his brother’s room.

“Did you write the word ‘nimbo...nimbo...nimbostratus’ on my bedroom wall?”

  “No,” Benjamin replied glumly.

“Callie!” Carla called out. “I told you, you have to stop writing on the walls. We don’t want to scare them away anymore.”

“Wait!” said Crissie as she got a grand idea. “That’s just it! I’ve figured out how to make Benjamin happy again!”

“How?” asked Cassie, who had been eavesdropping nearby.

“We do a haunting!” said Crissie. “A good kind of haunting! Callie! Where are you?” she called out. “I want you to write something on the wall.”

Callie stuck her head through the wall. “What?” she asked. “But Carla told me not to.”

“It’s okay,” said Carla. “This is to make Benjamin happy.”

Callie grinned and she started to walk toward her room.

“But we want Benjamin to see it,” Crissie said. “Shouldn’t we do it in the room he’s in?”

“What if he gets scared seeing the words appear?” asked Cassie.

Both girls looked at Carla and waited to see what she would decide since she was the leader.

But Callie spoke first. “But I always write on my walls. The red pen won’t show up as good on the blue walls.”

Carla nodded. “Alright, we’ll write it on the yellow walls. Byron will probably tell Benjamin about it anyway.”

All four girls went into the yellow room.

“What do I write?” asked Callie.

“Casper is a ghost,” said Crissie.
