The battle of Zayux was over. Kuea and whoever remained in his group went back to A4 to set camp. Meanwhile, inside the command center, the situation was intense.
The conflict, actually, against all the propaganda screamed by the audiographs, was not in the favor of the shore alliance. In fact, the mainland forces have been pushing the frontlines in the Rin Dynasty. However, it was common for these advances to be soon reversed as the sheer equality of the two alliances kept the world borders fluctuating but never collapsing.
Arcturion generals were discussing their next move. The navy had recently been impaired due to the constant defeats in the Sang West Ocean. Also, reinforcements and supplies from Arcturus have been greatly reduced, leading the Rin Dynasty to further conscript and stricten industrial laws.
Zayux was in the island of Polyakris north of the Arcturion mainland. Being an upward facing crescent with a landmass equal to atleast half of the rest of Arcturus, it was the epicenter of the nation's war, being only one strait away from the Kingdom of Sang, one of the nations in the mainland alliance.
The generals have been debating whether to keep the defense or unleash an attack. Furthermore, if they were to decide on an attack, they would have to debate once more wether to fight at sea or at the enemy lands. If they were to consider defense, should they focus on the land forces or the navy?
On the table were five generals, each against eachother. When one general suggested reinforcing, another considered relocating. When one general thought of attacking, another stated retreating. The military heirarchy of each nation were practically the same. They often had the leader of the nation as the head of the military. Below them were their respective heads of the military. Even further down are their own generals for each sector of the armed forces.
In this meetings, often, heavy words and actions would be used. To express one's trust on their strategy, they may slam the table, or start name calling, or ignore the others completely. This specific occasion was no excemption.
The general of the navy suggested pulling the fleets to the shore and one pathway from Arcturus to the Rin Dynasty. It was completely plausible, afterall, the current state of the navy did not permit an attack or even just a far ocean expedition.
However, "Coward!", called the general of the ground forces. "You must inflict a defeat on the Sang Navy! To not attack atleast the small fleet on Jongchua Harbor is just cowardice.", he proclaimed, eyes locked into his opponent's eyes.
Indeed, he had a point. The area was the least protected of the Sang Peninsula where its mainland was. Even only two carriers and a small escort could raid it with little risk.
"However, you are not considering considering the fact that doing so will leave the mainland vulnerable. I'm sure the general of defense wouldn't be the most glad.", he replied.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
The general of defense indeed was not the most glad as seen by his aggresive posture with his fist gripping the pencil on the table, breaking it in half.
"Oh, no! You are not putting the weight on me! I am a last resort, not something to rely on!"
Now this person was particulary weird. He was one of, if not the smartest person in the room during battles. However, he despised being forced to defend an area instead of the ground army taking care of it.
"If the general of the navy lets the enemy slip into this country you better take care of this, ground general!"
Of course, as it was clear as day, he had also the shortest temper.
The other two men in the room was the general of the airforce and the general of supply, both basically supportive roles only. It is only fair to be reminded that these generals were only for the Sang Contact Area. Each other area or division had their own sets of heirarchies all tied only by the Parliament.
The Arcturion airforce was usually the least important of the five military sectors since it was the smallest and least advanced especially when compared to those of other nations.
Second least important of the sectors was the supply since it only took care of defending supply lines, easily done by the general of defense.
Also, these generals dictated which officers became majors, like how the head of the military in their sector did to them, and how they were assigned by the head of the military who was voted on by the Parliament.
l
Now, the parliament was a senate of a fluctuating number. It controlled all of the nation via votes without a single leader unless chosen by the senators themselves personally. Thus, it was a mess of voices which sometimes split as the senators sided with the person they preferred.
Back in the operating room, the three major generals were still debating what exactly to do. Between them, not one of them was really that rational of a thinker. Instead, the general of the airforce was the one who calmed everybody down and directed them to one path.
"Calm down people, we must assess our options carefully. An attack means vulnerability when defense means total control by the enemy."
Suddenly, a thought clicked in the mind of the general of supply.
"However, defense is not total control by the enemy as we can always trick spies to reporting incoming reinforcements into our area, forcing an attack."
Of course there were spies. A spy can look like anyone due to the advancements in espionage. One person can forge a passport, an identity, an appearance, anything with ease when supported by their government and given the materials needed.
Looking around eachother, the generals considered the option. It was safe with minimal risk. A rushed strike is underarmed especially after the mainland alliance's defeat in Zayux. It angered no one but the general of defense who was always upset anyway.
"I agree.", stated the general of the airforce.
"Me too", "Indeed", "Agreed, comrade",
answered the others.
"Then it is settled, we must make this plan reach parliament and succeed.", stated the general of supply.
However, before they could even stand up from their chairs, a soldier rushed into the room. He was the radio operator. He kept the army connected to HQ.
"What is it, soldier?", asked the defense general.
"Emergency order directly from Parliament! The army is to board and set sail in the quickest hour!"
"For what, soldier?"
"The Rin Dynasty, they need our help."
