Reason

Kabe and I still quickly! ran over to the door though, but since it was locked we didn’t have any luck in regards to trying to get the door to open…; and so then we stopped trying to open the door, and then I said, “It looks like the doughnut-hurling maniac has us trapped for now…” and then Kabe said, “It sure does…

And I wonder if Jasper actually got set free?…

I mean; the Dreaded Doughnut Dropper said that he was “rehabilitated”, though I’m pretty sure that if he had been freed before we got captured then I would’ve heard about it…” and then I said, “Who knows…

I mean, I guess maybe he got freed just a little while before we got captured; but, also, I have exactly zero reason to trust the Dreaded Doughnut Dropper; and I also have exactly zero reason to trust that “officer Keys” person who the Dreaded Doughnut Dropper mentioned…” and then Kabe said, “No reason is right…

And so why do you think that we were captured?…

Or do you think that it was just random?…” and then I said, “Who knows…

I mean, the doughnut villain called us miscreants; but we’re not freaking miscreants, just like Jasper’s not a miscreant!…” and then suddenly! the door to the room unlocked and then opened, and then a man entered the room and said, “But you 2 are indeed miscreants!, or else you wouldn’t be here!…” and then I said, “Are you officer Keys?…” and then the man said, “Nope!…

I’m professor Bear!, and I specialize in the educational aspect of rehabilitation!; though, unfortunately, my assignment notes say that one of you knows how to make doughnuts…; and so because of that little obstacle to my plans I’ll have to get you 2 making doughnuts for your rehabilitation instead of doing my usual teaching routine…

Ah, well…; I suppose it’s true when they say that you can’t have everything in life…

And so if you 2 will just follow me then I’ll lead you to a room that’s all set up for doughnut-making, and then whichever one of you knows how to make doughnuts can teach the other one of you how to make doughnuts, and then once y’all make enough doughnuts then your rehabilitation will be complete!…” and then I said, “And how many doughnuts will we have to make?…” and then “professor” Bear said, “Oh, that’ll depend on various factors; and so all that you 2 will need to know is that you’ll be making doughnuts until your rehabilitation is complete!…” and then Bear motioned for Kabe and I to follow him, and so then Kabe and I followed him out of the door, and then the 3 of us walked down a long hall…; and then eventually Bear stopped and opened a door, and then he said, “This is the room!…

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

And so let the doughnut-making begin!…” and then Kabe and I entered the room, and then Bear shut the door behind us, and then we heard the door lock…; and then I said, “Do you think that we should’ve tried to escape?…” and then Kabe said, “I was tempted to try…; but I figured that this place is probably secure enough that an escape attempt would’ve been counterproductive, especially with “professor” Bear right there to sound the alarm…” and then I said, “Yeah…

Those were pretty much my thoughts too…

And so are we actually going to use all of the doughnut-making materials that are in this room to make a bunch of doughnuts?…” and then Kabe said, “Now that is a question that I’m not sure how to answer yet…

I mean; we could protest the fact that we’re captured by simply refusing to make doughnuts, but we could also just make a bunch of doughnuts and hope that within the next few days professor Bear and the Dreaded Doughnut Dropper will decide to let us leave this awful prison and return home…

And so those are the most obvious options that we have at the moment, and I’m not sure which one seems to be a better choice for us…” and then I said, “Hmmm…

  Yeah…; it’s a tricky decision, for sure…

I mean; I hate the idea of just doing what what they’re telling us to do, but it also seems like if we’ll actually get home sooner by making the doughnuts then maybe we should just make the doughnuts…” and then Kabe sighed and said, “And so if you had to rate what currently seems like the better choice then what number would you choose if 1 was making a bunch of doughnuts and 100 was refusing to make doughnuts?…” and then I said, “Ummmm…

I guess my current rating would be like 48?…” and then Kabe said, “Yeah, I guess that’d probably be pretty close to being the number that I’d choose too…

And so does that mean that we should (for now, at least…) just begin making some doughnuts in hopes that making doughnuts will lead to us being able to go home sooner?…” and then I sighed unhappily and said, “I suppose that that probably makes sense to do…” and so then Kabe said, “It seems that we are in agreement then…

And, of course, we can always change our minds later if we want to…

And so I guess I’ll just begin showing you how to make doughnuts then…” and so then I nodded in unhappy agreement, and then Kabe began showing me how to make doughnuts…
