CHAPTER 1: - CHAPTER 2: - CHAPTER 3:

  Chapter: 1

  Cole Quinn hated mornings.

  Not because they were early.

Because they reminded him, he hadn’t gone anywhere.

He stood outside his apartment door, staring at the chipped paint near the handle. His landlord kept promising to fix it. Just like everyone else kept promising things.

  He locked the door.

  His phone buzzed.

He didn’t need to check it. He already knew it wasn’t her.

Three days ago, Lena had stood in this same hallway.

“You don’t fight for anything, Cole,” she’d said quietly. “You just… exist.”

He swallowed the memory and forced himself down the stairs.

The parking lot smelled like oil and stale rain. His small grey Audi sat alone in the corner. He walked toward it, adjusting his sleeve, running through excuses for being late to work.

  Again.

He reached for the car door.

  The wind exploded.

It slammed into him so hard he stumbled sideways into the vehicle. Cold. Sharp. Violent. It felt unnatural — like something had inhaled the world and was now exhaling it back out.

  “What the hell?!” he shouted.

  The ground shook.

Car alarms wailed. Glass shattered. A scream tore through the air and cut off mid-breath.

  Then—

  Silence.

  Absolute silence.

  The world froze.

The wind stopped. The alarms died. Even the dust hung motionless.

Cole’s heart pounded in his ears.

The air in front of him rippled.

A blue screen unfolded like liquid light.

WELCOME planet F-417 to the SYSTEM UNIVERSE,

  Civilization Status: Pre-Integration.

  Population: 8.3 billion

  Species: Human

  Error…. Error….

  Species designation updated.

  New classification: High Human.

  Cole stared at it.

  “This isn’t real,” he whispered.

His breath fogged. The screen did not disappear.

  The text shifted.

  PLANTETARY DESIGNATION CONFIRMED.

Planet F-147 has been classified as a tectonic world.

  Territories Available:14

  Territory Assignments: Pending

Each territory will be bound to a major tectonic plate.

Each plate will function as an independent territory.

A cold weight settled in his chest.

  Tectonic plates.

  Continents.

  Pre-territories Initiated.

  Duration: 90 days, 3 months.

During this period all registered entities will be expected to prepare their assigned territories.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

At the conclusion of the preparation phase a full-scale territorial WAR will commence.

  Duration: One year.

The word WAR glowed brighter than the rest.

Cole took a slow step back.

“War between who?” he asked the empty street.

  Victory conditions: Undisclosed.

  Failure conditions: Undisclosed.

Expected finishing population: 700 million humans.

  His stomach dropped.

Eight billion down to seven hundred million.

“That’s not war,” he muttered. “That’s a purge.”

  The screen pulsed once.

  Then split.

The frozen world shattered like glass.

Sound returned all at once—sirens, crashes, screaming—before being ripped away again.

  The ground vanished beneath him.

  He was falling.

  TERRITORY ASSIGNMENT COMMENCING

  Cole tumbled through blinding light.

Shapes spun around him. Thousands. Millions.

  People.

Some screamed. Some were silent. All were falling.

Blue lines stretched across the void, forming massive landmasses suspended in darkness.

  Plates.

  Fourteen of them.

One was enormous. Scarred with glowing fractures like burning veins.

  Scanning registered entities…

  Compatibility analysis in progress…

Pressure crushed against his chest. Cold. Evaluating.

  WARNING: Territory assignment is final.

  WARNING: Reassignment is impossible.

People vanished mid-fall, ripped toward different plates.

  Cole tried to move.

  He couldn’t.

  Entity Identified: Cole Quinn

  Species: High Human

  Status: Unassigned**

  The largest plate flickered.

  Time seemed to hesitate.

  Assignment Confirmed

The massive plate ignited in blue and gold light.

  TERRITORY ASSIGNED

  Tectonic Plate: Pacific Plate

  Classification: Primary Plate

  Role: Territorial Entity

  System Transformation Progress: 47%

  The pull was violent.

  Cole was dragged forward.

  Heat crushed around him.

  Then—

  Impact.

He slammed onto rough stone. The air burned with salt and heat. He coughed, rolling onto his side.

When he forced himself up, the sky above was fractured with glowing cracks.

In the distance, the ocean roared.

  Too close.

  Too loud.

He turned in a slow circle.

  Water.

  Rock.

  Sky.

And one military-style raft resting near the shore.

  No cities.

  No people.

  No help.

“The largest plate,” he murmured. “Of course.”

The blue screen flickered once more.

  PREPARATION PHASE: 90 DAYS REMAINING

  Then it vanished.

Cole looked out at the endless Pacific.

For the first time in his life—

He felt something stronger than doubt.

  Fear.

  And beneath it…

  Resolve.

  Chapter: 2

  The ocean smelled alive.

Cole swam hard toward the raft. The current fought him, dragging sideways, but adrenaline kept his arms moving.

He hauled himself over the edge and collapsed onto the rubber surface, gasping.

Inside the raft sat a small metal knife.

Seven centimeters long. Dull black. Jagged edge.

  “That’s it?” he muttered.

A splash below caught his attention.

A large fish drifted beneath the surface. Longer than his forearm. Its scales shimmered strangely in the sunlight.

  Then—

  A translucent window appeared.

  [Target Detected]

  Name: Reef Striker

  Level: 3

  Cole’s pulse spiked.

  A system.

  Levels.

  This was real.

  He swallowed hard.

“If it has a level…” he whispered, gripping the knife, “…it can die.”

  The fish surged upward.

  Cole struck.

The blade punched into flesh. The creature thrashed violently, nearly knocking him off the raft. He stabbed again. And again.

  Blood spread through the water.

  The fish slowed.

  Stopped.

A chime rang in his head.

You have slain Reef Striker (Level 3)

  You are now level 1.

  Cole sat there, breathing hard.

  He should feel sick.

  Instead, he felt alert.

  He stared at the numbers.

  Stronger than normal.

  Faster than normal.

“Guess I finally found something I’m good at,” he said quietly.

And for the first time since Lena left—

  He didn’t feel useless.

  Chapter: 3

Hunger hit him an hour later.

  Reality settled in.

No restaurants. No stores. No delivery apps.

  Just him.

  And the ocean.

He looked at the Reef Striker lying on the raft.

“No fire,” he muttered. “No stove.”

  Raw it is.

He skinned it carefully. His hands trembled at first, but steadied as he worked. The flesh beneath was pale and firm.

He hesitated before taking the first bite.

“If I die from food poisoning,” he said dryly, “that would be embarrassing.”

  He ate.

The taste was sharp. Salty. Strange.

  Then—

A pulse in the back of his mind.

You have eaten the flesh of a Reef Striker; you get a 10% enhancement in your DEX.

  He froze.

  Then felt it.

His senses sharpened. The world felt clearer. Movements easier.

  “That’s… addictive,” he whispered.

  He sat quietly, thinking.

  Strength was power.

  Agility was speed and coordination.

  Vitality meant survival.

  Endurance meant stamina.

  Intelligence… mana?

  Perception… awareness?

  He didn’t know for sure.

  But he would.

  He looked at the ocean.

Somewhere out there were more creatures.

  More levels.

  More power.

  And in ninety days—

  War.

He tightened his grip on the dagger.

“You said I never fought for anything,” he murmured to the empty horizon.

  “Guess I’ll start now.”

He stood at the edge of the raft.

  Took a breath.

  Then dove into the water.
