Chapter 7: Running Up the Stairs!

Norville could see that Archie wasn’t going to let him off the hook after what he did to his buddy Sam. The janitor rat did his best trying to use his broom as a weapon. The rhino security guards immediately got up and tackled Archie.

“We got it from here!” cried one of the security guards.

Norville knew since the security guards knew Archie tampered with their security device, Norville was in the clear. Five minutes left, he headed up the stairs doing his best trying to maneuver each stairway that he crossed.

“Come on, come on!” cried Norville.

Norville eventually made it to the fifth floor and was able to open the door. He could see a few animals were already lining up – there was Marshall watching the rest. Marshall knew Norville would be late again. He checked his smart watch.

  “Ticking away” laughed Marshall.

Norville knew he had to fly, use his wings for once trying to get to the line of animals. But in doing so, he clumsily bumped into a warthog who then toppled the rest of the animals by mistake. The warthog gazed at Norville.

“Late again, hopefully this will be the last time” said the warthog.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

The warthog wasn’t interested in fighting Norville in contrast to the rats, knowing Marshall would do the rest. As the animals each checked in – Norville was doing his best trying to rush the warthog.

“Come on, pick up the pace, I’m going to be late!” cried Norville.

The warthog ignored Norville and calmly swiped his card.

“On time, thank you very much have a nice day” said a computer voice.

The warthog smiled. Now the moment of truth – Norville’s turn – Norville took out his keycard and swiped the check in. Suddenly a red light beamed up instead.

“You are one minute late!” said the computerized voice.

Norville swallowed – just a minute late he was there for the rest of the day. Marshall glanced at Norville.

“I would like to see you in my office” said Marshall.

Norville swallowed – those were not good words at all. After checking in, Norville didn’t head towards his desk. Paris who was busy doing data analytical work could tell something was up. He and the other animals were all but a hush as Norville headed into the office. There Marshall sat calmly, he wasn’t going to fire Norville – he was going to do something much worse to him instead.

“I know why you called me in, I came in late again today” sighed Norville.

“Yes you did, but I noticed some antics of yours on social media” said Marshall, “how would you like to be my personal assistant?” asked Marshall.

Norville didn’t know if being his personal assistant would change anything or make things worse for him. It wasn’t so much of a reward either for Norville.

“If you don’t take it, you can be fired for tardiness” continued Marshall.

Having money coming in was better than nothing, Norville nodded in agreement and Marshall knew he could humiliate Norville whenever he wanted. The poor bat had no choice but to sign it over the threat of no longer being employed!
