Kibishi's POV
"Alright then, let's get started." Mato cpped his hands together.
"Right," Kuma nodded.
Kuma sat up straight and then smiled at me. "Um, let's see here. To put it simply, I'm the supernatural of the demon."
"Wait wait. A demon supernatural? What type?" Tao asked curiously.
"I dunno." Kuma shrugged.
"You don't know?!" Tao's eyes raised in shock.
"It's more like, it doesn't matter at this point? But for a real answer, it's most likely this." Kuma raised her index finger.
"Since I'm mainly just "demon" and not a "type" of demon, that means all access or abilities a demon has, I have as well. For example, I can basically glide across the air without falling. There's more complexity to it, but that's the jest of things." Kuma pced her right hand under her chin.
"Glide the air? Don't you mean fly?" I raised my brows.
"Well, I can technically do that, too, but supernaturals don't always have the power to do anything just because the situation needs it. You can't go to point B without starting with point A." Kuma raised her index finger.
"Here's another example. I have all the traits that you can basically do as a demon. But here's the thing. I would need to know AND train to use the power. I can't really fly anywhere I want if I don't practice first."
"So basically, there's a certain rule to it, correct?" Tao looked at the ceiling with curiosity and showed she was impressed by Kuma's expnation so far.
"Yup! Everything in the universe has rules to something. The thing is, the only way to break the rule is to either find a loophole or find a way to temporarily remove it completely. But to do the tter, there MUST be a consequence for the action of breaking it." Yosei winked at Tao while raising her index finger confidently.
"Ah," Tao nodded.
"So with those rules in mind, you can do things that you can't do normally, but it can have serious backsh. Whether it's ter down the line or the moment of such rule breaking depends on the ability or the user for them." Kuma tapped on the table once with her index finger.
She then pced her right palm under her chest as she rested her head on it.
"But yeah, that's the gist of it. My skill and power are based around demons. And since it's not a particur demon, I have all the abilities of one. From weakest to strongest one known to mankind."
Kuma deeply sighed at the end of her sentence.
It was probably me specuting, but I thought Kuma didn't like her own supernatural type.
Hmm...
.... Alright, I was curious.
"Before we move on, I got a question. Do you like this type of supernatural in particur, Kuma?"
"No," Kuma answered so quickly that I flinched by it.
"Whoa! That was quick..." I ughed nervously.
"Was that surprising?" Kuma raised her head off her palms.
"I mean, if you think about it, don't our powers base on the personality of things?" Tao smiled nervously when she suggested that.
"Not necessarily. The type of supernatural doesn't always apply to that. It can be tied to something reting to what happened in your life. It can be from a short experience or a belief. Or—it can be random. There's no real answer to that." Mato gave his two cents.
"But doesn't that kinda defeat the point of our weapon selection?" I scratched my head.
"Abilities and weapons are two separate things." Kujira added.
"Huh?" Tao looked at Kujira in shock.
"Your weapon can always change. It's only a tool that's a fraction of yourself. And of course, as humans we are always changing." Kujira closed her eyes and folded her arms.
Tao and I nodded.
"However, your very core will not change. No matter what, your core, your origin will never change. Whether we like it or not, the truth of our very being is shown based on what supernatural we have." Kujira opened her eyes with a serious look.
Kujira then raised her index finger while blushing in a cute way.
"Listen, Kib, Tao! That's the truth behind our supernatural abilities. It will always show what happened in your life despite not always being based on your own life. It can be a fraction of your joy, anger, fear, or even emptiness. Depending on how you feel the most, it will show."
Ah, I see—wait, did she shorten my name?
"Well, I suppose it's not always accurate to say that, but based on past data, I'd say it's ninety percent." Kujira smiled at me.
Huh.
What happened to that cold expression she was ying out at me and Tao?
Kujira raised her brows at me in surprise.
"Hmm? What's wrong?"
"Oh, it's nothing, but, um..." I scratched the side of my face out of habit.
"Hmm?" Kujira tilted her head cutely.
"Did you... give Kishi... a nickname just now?" Tao whispered but loud enough for Kujira to hear.
Kujira blinked. It wasn't long before she started to blush badly.
"I-I, uh...!" Kujira started to panic.
It seemed like Kujira was trying to come up with an excuse, but it seemed like she blew a fuse or two when she realized what she did.
Ah. Now I felt bad...
.... Actually.
"Well, since you put yourself on the spot with your cute accident, might as well say yours, Jir!" Kuma teased Jir.
Ah, ironically, that was what I was gonna say. Well, I wouldn't say it in detail like that, but still.
I was going to think that, though.
"I-I didn't—nevermind...."
Kujira, who seemed to know that there was no way out of this situation, deeply sighed in her regret and adjusted herself to begin her expnation.
"At any rate, I'll expin my supernatural counterpart." Kujira frowned as she narrowed her eyes at us but it wasn't out of her usual coldness. This time, it came from someone who viewed us as allies.
I supposed she put her trust in us, even if it was a little.
"So, I already told you two this back then, Kib—...er, Kibishi, Tao—ah, Taoreta, but I am the supernatural of the Cetus." Kujira looked away then folded her arms once more. "You heard the stories of them, right?"
"Oh! I see! In Greek lore, the Cetus was loyal to its creator, Poseidon!" Tao cpped her hands in excitement.
"Yup. Indeed! The Cetus was a sea monster that obeyed its master in the Trojan war. Poseidon used it to cause chaos to the coast of Aethiopia."
Kujira looked up at Tao with a small smile. Destroying the coldness she had provided earlier.
"But since none of us were alive in the Greek Era, I can only say that it's based on my personal experiences. A small fraction of what it truly meant to do. The why, however, shall remain secret for the time being." Kujira closed herself out with that.
But wait.
"Wait, before wrapping up your expnation, Kujira, mind going into more detail about what you can do?" I asked, looking a bit concerned.
Kujira widened her eyes in surprise but she then smiled at me.
"Alright then, I guessed I can do that."
Kujira looked upwards and thought for a moment. She then looked at me in a serious way.
"I guessed you could say that since the Cetus is a mysterious being, it was created by something. And since this world is full of mana, in my mind, it was created with magic."
"Really? But what about the Cetus that was made by Poseidon?" Tao scratched her orange hair.
"Hmm? You mean the one in Greek mythology? Who knows. It never goes into details on HOW it was created. It just existed one day to spill danger to those that stood in its way. I only filled up the gap on my own and ended up this way." Kujira then smiled while raising her right index finger.
"Ah, but that gives me creativity due to the limitations of how it went down back then. And since there are many versions of that story about The Cetus in particur, there's nothing to stop me from being a magic type as well. So like Kuma, I can do abilities as the Cetus can. Only now, I can be very crafty with certain things."
Kujira raised both of her palms.
"Making fire, ice, lightning and even earth! There's nothing I can't do as a mage!"
"A mage?" I tilted my head.
"Ah, well, you see, all the Cetus does is bite people and devour them. Nothing magical, nothing too out of the ordinary. But it's a concept of magic, I can believe that it got the ability to cast them. After all, we're talking about the age of the gods back in those days!"
"I see," I nodded once again.
Very intriguing.
"But again, this doesn't mean it's accurate to the actual lore of the Greek counterpart. Maybe part of or if not, a little bit. So take this with a grain of salt."
I nodded again.
Okay, I understood.
While it wasn't a hundred percent accurate, it could be applied to whatever your very core was that brought out that supernatural. Meaning, that it could be as simple as liking the color blue and you were now the king of the sea.
At least, that was how I concluded it.
"So what you're saying is that as long as it's a fraction of something, you can be a supernatural of it. Like for example, you love to swim so there's a chance that you'll be the supernatural of the lost ke monster. Am I getting that right?" Tao questioned while tapping her chin lightly.
"That's correct!" Yosei nodded to Tao with a smile.
"Though, keep in mind, it doesn't always be that way." Kuma reminded us with a wink and a smirk.
"Alright then, I'll keep that in mind." I tapped on my forehead with a smile.
The girls ughed when I did that.
It was good to break the heavy tension.
But then The Founder cpped his hands.
"Alright, enough of that. Time is wasting." The Founder announced.
Why is he saying that now?
"Anyway, let's continue with Yosei, shall we?" Mato suggested while looking nervous, but he tried to keep his smile to warm up the room with the other adults looking so serious all the time.
I looked in the corner and saw Emily, David, and Riley ughing nervously. I could tell from here that David and Riley had been dying to speak out due to The Founder's comment just now.
I guessed best friends did have common grounds when it came to each other, huh.
Though, I already knew that from the start.
But then I looked at Yosei who seemed to be staring at me for some time now.
"Um, is there something wrong?" I sweated.
"Hmm?! Ah, I'm sorry. I've been spacing out again!" Yosei apologized while cpping her hands together.
"Ah, I see." I smiled at her.
Did I look like that when I spaced out?
Maybe whenever I was thinking about a lot of things, I sometimes stared at people and they thought I was looking at them directly.
I guessed that was a common thing for certain individuals, huh—?
"Um, now you're staring at me..." Yosei whispered.
"Huh?! S-sorry! I didn't mean to do that. I was just gathering my thoughts for my questions!"
And that wasn't really a lie either. I was gonna think up questions but got sidetracked for a moment.
"Um... your supernatural, Yosei?" Mato muttered but loud enough to hear with his eyes closed.
"Oh, right!" Yosei jolted.
Strange. Why was she being so nervous?
"Is everything alright, Yosei? You're never this nervous before." Kuma asked while having a concerned look.
"Ah, well, that ain't true! I was nervous all the time when we were kids, Kuma!" Yosei scratched the back of her neck.
"I suppose so..." Kuma whispered a bit.
"Ahem! Anyway," Yosei adjusted herself and then turned serious. "I won't lie and say that I wasn't nervous at all. After all, it's been a while since I said this out loud."
"Is it a bad type of supernatural?" Tao questioned while leaning a bit forward on the table and rested her palms on it.
"The opposite, actually." Yosei responded.
Yosei raised her index finger while her mouth shaped an oval. "The supernatural I represent is... a fairy."
"Huh?" Tao and I said in unison.
A... fairy?
