Quill splashed water on his face to try and get some of the soot out of his eyes while Wwennep continued to laugh in the background over the accidental ignition of his own booby trap.
“Just say the word and I'll kill him. Heck I don't even have to kill him. you should kill him, or at the very least put him on the kill list, we haven't added to that list in a while and it demands to be grown!”
“First off, no it doesn't. Second off, get rid of the list, we do not need it. And thirdly, you were laughing your ass off when the trap blew up in my face too. You only stopped when you noticed Wwennep was laughing also.” He had stopped bothering to hide the fact that it looked like he was talking to himself when he spoke to her. The rat kin seemed to have accepted that he was a little crazy, even if it wasn't true.
“Of course I was laughing my ass off. What happened was hilarious but only I can laugh at you! It is a privilege only reserved for me and me alone. I don't like it when others infringe on my privileges.”
“No kill list.” he responded as he washed a bit more of the soot off of his face.
“You have a kill list? Do tell, or is it more personal?” Wwennep spoke as he got near, it was a little odd seeing him have such an earnest look given he just asked about Quills hypothetical kill list.
“ I don't have a kill list nor do I want a kill list.” He responded and Wwennep looked disappointed from that statement.
“Shame, Shame. A kill list is very healthy to have. Always good to know who you want to kill should the opportunity arise.”
“Huh, looks like we agree on something. Okay maybe we can keep him if he manages to convince you to keep the kill list. Otherwise he goes on it.”
“There will be no kill list.” he answered both of them at the same time and looked at Wwennep hoping to change the topic. “What went wrong with that bomb I was making?”
“Nothing that I could see though I wasn’t paying much attention. Sometimes they just do that, perhaps a little bit of the chemicals that weren’t supposed to mix did and it caused a chain reaction. Either way it was funny.”
Quill let out a sigh to the less than helpful commentary. Over the past several…… however long it's been. He had been learning how to construct basic traps, fighting, and how to move more stealthily from Wwennep and another rat kin named Ttemin.
The system seemed to agree that he was making progress as his trap making leveled up three whole times during this process, his stealth and Dodge once, and surprisingly dirty fighting had leveled up twice. Wwennep really enjoyed fighting dirty and showed him different tricks or methods to get the upper hand when needed.
Apparently, having a teacher to help teach skills was the easiest way to level them up when you were in the single digit range at least. As they got to the teens and higher it became slower and more difficult. When that happened people usually broke off into three separate areas. Just keep training, look for practical and field experience or try to evolve your skill into something better.
When he was resting, or rather letting Wwennep and Ttemin rest as he didn't need to rest as much due to his high body and mind stat. He was learning more about the system and the world that he would soon find himself in from Ssevinac.
It seemed like everything was structured like a video game. He would accuse the system of copy and pasting from that except from the sound of it. The system had been around since the dawn of time which was unsettling.
The system loved to categorize everything with ranks. Unranked being the lowest, and apparently not worth anybody's time according to the rat kin. This was then followed up by G-rank, F-rank, E-rank, etc. etc. Of course the system being the difficult shit that it was, decided that A-rank wouldn't be at the top and S-rank was the highest one could go.
It also likes to give items an additional classification, because why the fuck not. This was further categorized as having trash, poor, average, high, and perfect quality.
It just seemed like an unnecessary complication to Quill but every time he tried to bring the systems stupidity up with any of the rat kin they looked completely mortified that he would utter such a thing. Ssevinac had quickly pulled him aside shortly afterwards to explain that bad-mouthing the system was a major taboo and to never do it again as most races would try to kill him on the spot for it. So that was pleasant.
He also got around to asking Ssevinac about achievements since the stats he got seemed kind of miniscule compared to the stats he gained in leveling up in F-rank. As it turned out, the stats were treated more like a little extra bonus as the achievements actually served two different purposes, one societal and one practical.
The societal one was often used by people as a form of greeting others or to show factions or other important people what you have done and or accomplished. This could be served in many different ways but to Quill it almost sounded like a dick measuring contest from how Ssevinac described it.

The Practical one was much more interesting. It would seem that everyone had a natural level cap. With humans the level cap was 10 which was apparently the same as the rat kin. Earning and gaining achievements increased your level cap. The more achievements you got, the higher your level cap would be.
But not all achievements were created equally, for example, he had actually gotten an achievement by gaining skill levels through being taught by others.
Congratulations you have earned the achievement “student”
You learn a little everyday, but it certainly helps to have someone teach you things.
This achievement is earned by gaining two or more skill levels thanks to a teacher.
Apparently this achievement was fairly commonplace among people in the Multiverse due to the relative ease of how you get it. However it only increased your level cap by one which wasn't much.
In contrast, an achievement like “apex” would increase once level cap by a full 30 levels which was pretty crazy to him. He had asked Ssevinac about a few of his other achievements and how much they would increase the level cap by, making sure to leave out the achievement “professional lawyer” to avoid any awkward questions. But sadly the rat kin didn't know much about the others and how much they increase the level cap by. Though he did say as a rule of thumb, the harder the achievement is to get, the more said achievement increases the level cap. So given the difficulty of killing a cursed sin and likewise he would assume the difficulty of suppressing and purging said sin-.
“ you're welcome”
-He would assume that meant his level cap was probably pretty high at the moment. It would likely get higher later on as Ssevinac knew of several easy to get achievements he had offered to help Quill with once they left the tutorial dungeon.
Speaking of the cursed sins, he did also ask about them, along with what he assumed were the related blessed virtues. Turns out both of these things were a pretty big problem or blessing depending on who you talked to.
There were seven types of cursed sins: Gluttony, Envy, Wrath, Lust, Sloth, Greed and Pride for that one. Along with seven types of blessed virtues: Prudence, Justice, Temperance, Fortitude, Faith, Hope and Love respectively.
Apparently they’re a great many followers on both sides with many kingdoms and Empires spanning thousands of planets adhering to one or the other. But there were also beings that were essentially the embodiment of their supposed name. For example, all the cursed sins he had seen in this dungeon were that of gluttony. So that meant there were 13 completely different types of entities which was horrifying. Not even counting the fact that the cursed sins of gluttony in this dungeon were pacified and level 1.
One of the most horrifying things he learned was that, should one of those creatures die. The Virtue or Sin would immediately try and find a new host to settle in, then it would only be a matter of time before said host would slowly become corrupted by its influence and made into what it had been before.
Granted the blessed virtues didn't sound nearly as bad as the cursed sins, but he also could see that if they were the embodiment of whatever their namesake was. An extreme like that would likely be very bad even if he had trouble picturing it.
He had questioned Ssevinac on that very nature and he said that most kingdoms are Empires that host one of the two as their state religion usually have a working nature where they don't over step their bounds and in return they can preach to the masses.
The whole thing sounded like a confusing mess that was nothing more than a powder keg waiting to explode but perceived outside enemies were a good dampener for such a thing. Kingdoms and Empires were constantly waging war on each other for one reason or another and it helped when you had one of the churches backing you up with their own power. And the churches were in a never ending war with each other, so it helped when they had the backing of whatever kingdom or empire that they were in bed with.
Ssevinac didn't want to get into the nitty-gritty of the Multiverse politics, especially since he didn't even know what had changed or not since he had been in stasis for who knows how long but he did say he would help Quill navigate things once he had a better understanding of where everything lay.
This brought Quill to the final thing which was what to expect once leaving this tutorial. Ssevinac explained that their homeworld would essentially have a grace period. This was supposedly to give time for the locals to grow stronger and for potential leaders among said locals to distinguish themselves.
After a certain amount of time, which the system should inform them, the planet will become open to any and all who wish to go there. Sadly this didn't mean alien tourists but an alien invasion.
It seemed that it was fairly common for integrated planets to just show up within a kingdom and then said kingdom would usually wait for the grace period to end before sending in a force to subjugate them. Often appointing one of the strongest locals as leader of said planet. It wasn't a guarantee but it was common practice as that was usually the best way for quick integration and to keep the locals pacified.
Of course there was the occasional exception, sometimes the planet was such a low grade and in such a non-consequential area that some Empires just ignored them as they wouldn't be worth the resources or manpower to take.
When Quill had asked what would determine a classification of a planet, it was how much energy the planet gave off which could usually be determined by the resources and monsters though on a rare occasion a group of locals might be so exceptional that the system would forcibly raise the planet by a single grade though that was very rare.
He kept his fingers crossed that their planet would be a low grade that whatever potential empire they spawned in or nearby would just ignore him though Ssevinac told him not to hold his breath and be prepared for some kind of subjugation.
However, that just did not sit well with him. Maybe it was his new class altering his thoughts a little, but he did not like the idea of bowing to some new overlord. Maybe everyone else will want that. but it sure is shit wasn't going to be him.
“ So what, you'll just jump off this planet the first chance you get?”
“ I don't know.” he muttered as he cleaned up his face a bit more, trying his best to ignore the sense of depressive exhaustion that threatened to overtake him just then “I just gotta put one foot in front of the other. As always.”
