I'm worried. There's sounds at night that ain't normal. There's always Aber howls every now and then, but this is somethin' weirder. Froskir ain't been the same after his accident. His foot was all chewed up by a cart, so I get why he don't wanna get back to the mine. But he said that's not it. He said Rhnull's lookin' all crazy-eyed, and he's still down there seasons after his shift. Thought he was just bein' a good worker but there's not enough silver being refined. The other shifts bring 'em rations and some smoked meat the mutts bring back from the woods, so I guess he could live down there if he really wanted to. The forge keeps the center warm enough. Silver's been scarce comin' out. Maybe they just can't find any good veins. The Lithomancer don't wanna go down there. Says it's weird, like Tellustraine's acting weird and it feels wrong. But if we wanna get silver out she has to go dowsing. We all do our part to keep Habern goin', but the miners been slacking. So I worry about getting veggies and spices from the basin-plains. If we got no silver being sold down the mountain, we got no money comin' in. The tavern's about the only place I really feel safe. That mearle could lift a house and probably fight off ten abers. Friendly too but I can't make out a damn word he says. Anyway I just figured I'd write this down. Got no one to talk to since Paro and Kirin are still down there for the season. Someone's gotta take care of our house and keep the frost out. Anyway, it feels good to get this off my chest.

Y’know, damn it all. Things ain’t right. I’m goin’ to the tavern. I don’t know a lick of Mearlish and he don’t know a lick of Lyviki but he’s still good company.
