They tried to get off a low-powered shock to paralyze him, but Jason had already charged his body with Energy. This created quite the interesting display as small bolts of electricity literally bounce off of him and are deflected by his hands. The axolotls were completely unprepared for a situation like this and allowed him to get right up next to his target.
The other four axolotls were quite shocked by this and scampered back into the water. Well, the one Jason was targeting tried to do that was well. If only it hadn’t let him get within arms reach and if only he hadn’t just upgraded his movement skill.
Because while it did try to leave, all it took for Jason to stop the monster was a quick slap and his Energy was able to grab the axolotl. So, with his feet anchored to the ground and his hand anchored to the monster, it became a contest of strength. Something the giant electric axolotl doesn’t exactly focus on.
Maybe if Jason had been using Mana or Qi, the axolotl would have managed to escape. As it is though, his Energy was able to make use of the natural stickiness it has to the other powers as they try to transform. Jason didn’t bet too much on it continuing to work as he quickly released the grab.
This was of course, after putting all his strength into a throw. After all, it would be a bit self-defeating if he kept it stuck to him when trying to toss it onto the land. Now, the axolotl didn’t fly all that far. It was, after all, a giant monster of at least equal size to Jason himself.
On the other hand, Jason hadn’t been trying to throw it all that far in the first place. All he wanted was to get the monster on the beach. While he didn’t believe the alternate evolution of the salamander was going to give up on the ability to survive on land, no matter what the exposed gills might say otherwise.
Not that the gills are saying much as the axolotl slams into the ground. Jason can’t be entirely certain, but can somewhat feel that mana is being used to support the delicate organs despite the situation. Then he dives at the monster as a large number of lightning bolts arc through the space he just occupied.
That is fine with him though, as Jason tackles the beached monster before the axolotl manages to get back on its feet. From there, he locks it down again. The fight would probably be over quite quickly if he targeted the gills but those were likely the money makers of the monster as well so instead he targets the neck.
With his back locked to the ground and his legs wrapped around the enemy, Jason lets loose with a series of rapid throat punches, each one bursting forth with Energy. The axolotl, now out of water and suffering for it, doesn’t last long under the barrage.

At this point, the four that had been with the dead one have managed to recharge and so more electricity comes his way. Jason however ignores it as he maneuvers the body onto his back. Half the bolts strike true and shave off his HP like a deli slicer, the other half however are absorbed by the body as its natural defenses are still working.
Jason, satisfied with his harvest, promptly high tails it out of there. A couple half hearted bolts of lightning zing towards him but ground themselves at the tree line as he escapes. Not that he stops after getting out of sight. While the axolotl on his back hadn’t managed to show whether they were a threat on land, he wasn’t taking any chances that a few might wander by to take revenge. After all, the forest was awfully quiet even away from the water, even the birds were silent.
Still, he couldn’t run for too long as the body needed butchering. While sometimes a creature’s natural power will preserve its body well beyond what is natural, it can also sometimes accelerate the decomposition. So seeing as that second option tends to be the case more often with the more volatile powers Jason wasn’t taking chances.
So once settled down Jason pulls out one of his newest purchases. Previously, he had only had the small sealed silver snips for harvesting his plants. Now, though, he had traded those in and gotten a complete set of sealed silver tools. This cost 30 gold even after trading in the snips so you can see how valuable the set is.
Not that the tool set is all that fancy. Those who focus on resource harvesting will have a bunch of specialized tools. As an example, the sealed silver might work to prevent the mana from escaping the parts he harvests from the axolotl. However, some of the electricity aligned mana will still escape despite that because the sealed silver still somewhat conducts electricity. Someone prepared would have their tool to be resistant to electricity and a pair of non-conductive gloves.
Still, Jason makes do with what he has. With great care, he removes the skin from the rest of the body while leaving the head for last. From there, it is a little nasty as he has to locate and extract the electricity storing and or producing bits while keeping any connections in place. After much longer than someone with training would have taken, he is left with semi-decent materials. The biggest problem being that all the electricity based stuff needs to stay with the hide as he can’t tell which parts can be removed and stored separately.
{Complete Giant Electric Axolotl Hide
Description:
The complete hide of the relatively rare giant electric axolotl, a mana based variant of the more common giant electric salamander. This hide is complete with all the manaletric based body parts still attached.
Grade: Lv18 Low Normal (Ingredient)
Effect:
- Volt Absorb - Able to absorb small amounts of electricity}
Before, this would have been a problem to store because of the water content and volatile powers involved, but the sealed silver kit came with an extra bit of kit that Jason honestly counts as a separate thing. A wonderful piece of fabric enchanted with minor preservation and the outer layer has what is basically a faraday cage of sealed silver woven into it. So while Jason won’t be able to keep any more axolotl hides, this one should last a couple weeks until the next town.
