CHAPTER 7.1 – The Secret Under the Bed

Anyone who hears the name "Fugui Mountain Vil" for the first time is bound to be surprised.

A mansion, this "Fugui Mountain Vil" was certainly a rare sight.

Guo Dalu chuckled, "This pce usually doesn′t have any mps or oil, but luckily, I brought some candles back from the foot of the mountain today. Otherwise, we′d have to eat in the dark."

Wang Dong said, "Eating in the dark could be fun—I'm just afraid we might end up stuffing food into our noses instead of our mouths."

Normally, the first thing he would do upon returning home was take off his shoes and get into bed. But today, he didn′t even walk over. He simply sat down from a distance and said, "If you don′t mind the dirt, please have a seat on the floor."

Jin Shi ughed. "That′s the ancient way. Our ancestors sat on the ground too."

Guo Dalu added, "We′re even more dedicated to tradition—we sleep on the ground as well."

Jin Shi asked, "Then what about that bed?"

No one wanted to draw attention to that bed, yet no matter who walked in, they couldn′t help but notice it.

Wang Dong said, "The bed is mine alone."

Guo Dalu added, "It′s not that he′s being stingy as the host—we just don′t want to dirty ourselves."

In the room, only the three of them were speaking. Lin Taiping, Yan Qi, and Gun Zi had remained silent the entire time, while the man in bck hadn′t even stepped inside. He stood in the courtyard with his hands behind his back, as if he had melded into the eerie night and the gloomy surroundings.

Jin Shi changed the subject, as if doing them a favor. "With such impressive martial arts, young brother, may I ask which master taught you?"

Everyone was more than happy to move away from the topic of the bed.

Guo Dalu replied, "My master has trained plenty of disciples, but I′m the only one who turned out useless."

Jin Shi asked, "May I know their names?"

Guo Dalu began listing them off: "My first teacher was the ‘Master of Divine Fist,’ Liu Hu. Then came ‘Invincible Bde’ Yang Bin, ‘Nine-Dragon Spear’ Zhao Guang, and ‘Iron-Armed Divine Saber’ Hu Deyang."

Jin Shi's eyes widened as he listened. The more names Guo Dalu mentioned, the more shocked he seemed—as if completely dumbfounded.

The truth was, he had never heard of a single one of these names.

There was something amusing about the martial world—many people gave themselves intimidating titles, yet their actual skills were often mediocre at best. Especially names like Nine-Dragon Spear and Iron-Armed Divine Saber—they sounded more like street performers trying to impress a crowd. If a true martial arts grandmaster adopted such a name, people would ugh their heads off.

After finally rattling off the long list of names, Guo Dalu grinned and asked, "Have you ever heard of my masters?"

Jin Shi twice and forced a smile. "Ah, yes, yes! I′ve heard of them—quite a lot, actually. Cough, cough... quite a lot."

Suddenly, he sprang forward, darting to the bedside, grabbing the edge of the bed.

With a swift motion, he used his momentum to lift the bed.

At that moment, Guo Dalu, Wang Dong, Yan Qi, and Lin Taiping all felt their hearts rise along with it.

If the five chests hidden under the bed were discovered, even if they could fend off Jin Shi′s bde, Gun Zi′s iron cws, and the bck-cd man's longsword, the stain of being beled thieves would never be erased. They were still young—if they were branded as criminals now, when would they ever be able to clear their names?

But to their astonishment, there wasn't a single chest under the bed. Nothing at all.

Guo Dalu almost let out a cry of surprise.

Even Jin Shi seemed taken aback. After a brief pause, he slowly set the bed back down and forced a smile. “I could′ve sworn I just saw a rat under there. How did it disappear so suddenly?”

Wang Dong said coldly, “Was it a white rat or a bck rat?”

Jin Shi hesitated. "Uh, I didn′t get a good look.”

Wang Dong replied, “White rats symbolize wealth. You often find them in pces where gold is hidden. Tomorrow, I think I′ll dig around a bit—who knows, maybe there′s a few chests of gold buried underneath.”

His face remained expressionless, cold as ice.

Guo Dalu gnced at him and said, “Brother Jin, if you′re willing to stay, maybe you could make a little fortune too.”

Jin Shi forced another smile and waved it off. “No need. I was born without the luck for unexpected riches.”

Though the house was now old, its original construction had been quite refined. The floor was paved with rge sbs of bluestone, with moss growing in the gaps. Anyone could tell that these stones hadn′t been moved for at least ten years.

Suddenly, Gun Zi stood up and said, “I′m drunk. I′ll take my leave.”

He hadn′t had a single drop of alcohol. He was clearly lying with his eyes wide open—but no one wanted to call him out on it.

Everyone felt that his words came at just the right moment.

Gun Zi and Jin Shi had been gone for quite a while when Guo Dalu finally let out a long breath and ughed. "Our great leader Wang really is brilliant. If he hadn′t moved those chests, we would have made a complete fool of ourselves today."

Wang Dong asked, "Who′s this ‘great leader Wang’?"

Guo Dalu replied, "Obviously, it′s you."

Wang Dong said, "Do you really think I could have moved five chests all by myself and hidden them away?"

  Guo Dalu was stunned.

If Wang Dong had been the one moving the chests, it might have been easier for the chests to move Wang Dong instead.

Scratching his head, Guo Dalu muttered, "If it wasn′t you... then who?"

He turned to look at Yan Qi.

Yan Qi said, "No need to look at me. I′m not much more hardworking than your ‘great leader Wang.’"

Lin Taiping added, "I′ve never moved a chest in my life."
