Chapter 25: Battle at the apartment complex.
It was three in the morning when Lamar, Mycal, and Daniel made it to Lamar’s apartment building. They parked in the back, they wanted to get in and out without being noticed by anyone. The streets were empty and only a few apartments had lights coming through the window, mostly a dim glow from a television.
“It looks like it’s all clear.” Lamar said peering around towards the front of the apartment building.”
“Why didn’t we just go to your shop at Elle’s?” Mycal asked Lamar.
“Her place for sure is being watched, I figured the small one I have in my apartment was our best bet.” Lamar replied.
“This can’t be this easy.” Daniel wondered out loud as they walked to the front of the building from the back lot.
“Why would you say that?” Lamar asked frustrated, stopping halfway to the front.
“Say what?” Daniel stopped and turned around to face him.
“That it’s too easy, you basically are asking for us to have a problem. We are catching a break for once, so stop looking in the horse’s mouth.”
“Look like the chickens has come home to roost.” Mycal said.
“Can we stop with all these animal metaphors please.” Daniel demanded.
“I’m just saying you jinxed us.” Mycal pointed to the street in front of the building getting them to look that way. A black SUV pulled up and parked. Four enforcers stepped out and looked around.
The guys got closer to the wall of the building trying to obscure any view of them. “It’s pretty dark on the side of the building, I don’t think they have noticed us yet, let’s just get out of here.” Suggested Mycal, they got ready to turn around and head back the way they came when Lamar noticed one of the enforcers take an orb the size of a tennis ball out of their pocket.
“Shit.” Lamar grabbed one of Daniel’s and one of Mycal’s shoulders, he whispered something they couldn’t make out. A small electrical charge flowed through them as the enforcer holding the orb smashed it on the ground, a flash of light lit up half the block, from that brief flash one of the enforcers noticed the three of them standing there. The guys took off running to the back of the building and the enforcers chased after them. The guys all found their own car to hide behind. Trying to stay as quiet as possible,
“Can you guys hear me?”
“What the hell.” Mycal said.
“Be quiet, just think and we can hear each other.” Lamar thought.
“What’s going on?” Daniel thought.
“That orb that was smashed was a magical item. That’s why that flash of light happened when it was smashed. It’s like a veil in a way, but it different because it stops time in that area that the light covered. So, if anyone comes into that area they will be frozen in time until the spell wears off, I’m assuming the spell was either catered to the four of them specifically or they are carrying a charm to counter act it.”
“Why aren’t we frozen then.” Mycal thought.
“I casted a spell on us just in time that counter acts the orb, since it wasn’t an actual mage casting a spell, it I had a fifty fifty shot that it was going to work, and I linked our minds together so we can talk to one another without having to make noise.”
They could hear the enforcers running into the lot, it was only a matter of time before they were found.
“You couldn’t have made us invisible like you did before.” Mycal thought.
“You know I can only do so much. I didn’t think about that, I was more worried about us being frozen.”
“I’m just saying.” Mycal said in a snide tone.
“Shut up you two, here they come.” Daniel was hiding on the side of a black F150 closer to the front of the lot. He was able to see the enforcers entering the lot.
The four enforcers comprised of a shooter class, one warrior class, and two chasseur class, one of the chasseur class moved in between the cars swift like the wind. The warrior and the other chasseur stayed at the front of the lot in the case the guys tried to make a run for it, and the shooter scaled the building like a to the roof to get a better vantage point.
“There is one over by that black truck.” The shooter on the roof shouted to the chasseur moving through the cars. Daniel pulled out his daggers and readied himself. “The other two are in the back one by a green Toyota and the other by a black Lincoln. The three of them were made, they were hoping to just get in and get out without any problems. They did have a little bit of luck on there side, the enforcers were told to bring them in alive, otherwise the shooter would have just shot them when they were noticed.

The chasseur a bulky blonde woman rounded the truck from behind, Daniel positioned himself as she round the back of the truck he tried to sweep her legs to knock her off balance, but she had cat like reflexes and did a no handed cartwheel over his leg. As she landed, she did a front round house kick towards Daniel head, he rolled out of the way just in time, her leg connected with the passenger door of the truck, followed by a loud crunch, the truck slid a few inches and there was a large leg shaped dent in the door.
Daniel recovered from the roll and was on his feet in an instant. He got into a fighting stands with his daggers at the ready. The chasseur pulled out her weapon it was a gold handledrapier, Daniel knew who he was up against. Bredigite Gloss, she was known for her fencing expertise and using her sword to disable her opponents by puncturing vital nerves in their body. Bredigite lunged forward with her blade, Daniel blocked her attack with his, they begun swiping and parring each other’s attack, sparks flew as the metal clanked together, the rhythmic tings echoed through the lot. It was like a beautiful dance as they connected their blades.
“Should we help him?” Lamar thought to Mycal.
Before Mycal could answer a hand yanked him to his feet, up into the air and slammed him hard down on the roof of the black Lincoln the force of the slam made two of the car tires explode and the roof cave in. Lamar jumped up out of his hiding space to see what was happening when he heard the loud pops of the tire. He started to run over to help Mycal when a chain wrapped around his neck and pulled him to the ground, his back slapped the pavement with a thud. It was the other chasseur, a skinny pale bald man with piercing green eyes by the name of Roger Brown. He started to drag Lamar across the ground, the chain getting tighter around his neck. Lamar grabbed the chain and pulled forward trying to get Roger to lose his grip, but the chasseur had a good hold of the chain. Lamar was losing consciousness, his back scraped against the pavement, still holding on he sent a current of electricity up the metal links, shocking Roger and making him lose his grip, Lamar took the chain from around his neck, coughing and gasping for air. He rubbed his sore red neck, his voice hoarse like when he spoke.
“I’m done and so are you.”
Lamar rushed for towards Roger with speed of Chasseur conjuring two sais and with all strength of a warrior he plunged one of the sais into Rogers chest, he then spun around Roger’s falling body and threw the other sai at the roof were it landed right between the eyes of the shooter. The shooter’s body went limp and fell over the side of the building and landed on the roof of a blue Honda Civic with a loud thud getting the attention of the warrior.
“MARIAH!” The warrior a 6’6” built like a Greek statue of a man screamed.
Mycal took advantage of the distraction and sent a fury of punches to the warrior’s back. With one last punch directed to the center of the warrior’s back, he shattered the warrior’s spine, the warrior fell to the ground like a rag doll. Bredigite the last chasseur stopped her fight with Daniel, she looked around seeing that her fellow enforcers were all laying on the ground and not moving. This was supposed to be an easy mission she thought, there was no way that they would lose, they were enforcers, the best of the best. Her face got warm and turned red, tears begun to form in her dark brown eyes.
“What have you done! How could you!” She screamed as the tears begun to flow. She knew she was beat and started to run, Lamar lifted his hand and as he did she flew into the air. Lamar pulled her closer, she struggled but she was no match for his powers.
“Let me go!” Bredigite screamed.
“How many more are going to come after us?” Lamar asked.
“We will continue to come, no matter how many of us it will take.” She snarled; Lamar pinned her arms to her body to keep her from struggling further.
"We were trying to make things better. The council has everyone thinking we are the bad guys. I promise you that ain’t the case.” Lamar tried convincing her, but he knew it was no hope.
“You killed them, is that your idea of making things better, you self righteous assholes think your some kind of untouchables, starting a war and dragging innocent people into it.”
“What are you talking about, what innocent people? And also the guy over there technically isn’t dead, just paralyzed” Mycal pointed to the warrior on the ground.
“You think you’re funny, I swear I’m going to kill all of you.” Spittle formed around her lips, he continued to try to break the hold that Lamar had, it was no use, she wasn’t going anywhere but that wasn’t going to stop her from trying.
If you would of came to the council and worked with us then we would not be in the situation we are in now. The innocent duckers that were killed at Elle’s diner, the humans that are getting dragged into this war.” She spat out.
Could they know about Serenity and Crystal’s father. Lamar thought as he continued his hold on her and keeping her from moving. The night was getting away from them, they were spending to much time at Lamar’s apartment complex and the magic orb that the enforcers use is going to wear off any minute.
“We need to get out of here.” Daniel said.
“What about her?” Lamar asked.
“We can take her with us.” Daniel suggested.
“That would be a terrible idea.” Mycal answered.
“There has been enough killing tonight.” Lamar responded.
“I’m not talking about killing her, you’ve read minds before can’t you just wipe her memory or something?” He asked Lamar.
“I’ve been able to see small blips into people minds, erasing someone’s memory is a different beast in itself, I never done anything like that before, the mind is a complex thing. If when I connected our minds to talk I was taking a huge risk.” Lamar admitted.
“We can’t take her with us, and we don’t want to kill her, what else can we do?” asked Daniel.
“I can’t erase her memory, but I can put them to sleep, they’ll be out for about 24 hours.”
They all agreed on the plan, Lamar ran back into his apartment to grab what he needed while, Mycal stayed with their captives and Daniel gathered the other three bodies, it would have been much easier if they were vampires he thought, he’d just have to pick up some clothes. Lamar came back with the ingredients he needed to make the powder.
“We have to move quick, I brought enough for them both.” Lamar used the powder to put them to sleep, Daniel loaded the two lifeless bodies in the back of Lamar’s truck and closed the cover, they all felt that a proper burial was deserved. They got the two sleeping enforcers into the SUV that they arrived in just in time for the orbs magic to wear off. They piled back into Lamar’s truck and headed back to their hideout.
