140. Vile Creature (Book Three)

Eventually Ra made it back to where Rick and the others were. Of course, the stress of Ra’s arrival had not good unnoticed, but before anyone could ask what the issue was, he quickly began talking.

“My Lord, General Lago of the Central Clan is quickly heading in this direction! He is being chased by what I think are Wood Elves!”

Loruk’s eyes shot wide open as he digested the words of Ra. He practically unconsciously blurted out the first words that came into his mind.

  “My Uncle is here?”

“Yes your Uncle is here, and he is heading in this direction while being chased! What are your orders My Lord?”

  POV Rick

‘What are my orders huh. What a complicated question. I have no idea what I’m supposed to do in this type of situation. I don’t know who this General Lago is, and I don’t know why he is in this forest and being chased by Wood Elves, but I do know that we aren’t in a position to be fighting off a whole nation at the moment.

‘But at the same time, I can’t just ignore the fact that a Goblin is being chased by enemies and quite literally heading in my direction, and to make it worst, its Loruk’s Uncle.

‘What am I to do Velora? Abandon Loruk’s Uncle? Or continue to risk destruction in an effort to save him? I truly don’t know what to do.’

[Before we talk about solutions, I want to remind you that the feeling you felt was likely pointing towards this escaping Goblin, and it proves that your feeling was correct. I think that is a very important factor as you make your decision.

[Now, you indeed do have a big decision to make regarding this situation. But this is one you need to answer for yourself, and I think the question is simple. What is a higher priority? Saving the Goblin or not antagonizing another force?]

‘Dammit Velora. That does not make this decision any easier. I feel like my stomach is turning at the thought of ignoring the plight of a Goblin, especially one that is the relative of Loruk. How can I do that?

  ‘…I can’t Velora…I can’t do that.’

[Alright then that is your decision. We will help this Goblin; the question now is how to go about doing that?]

‘…We can’t fight another war, it’s not feasible for us so I will try to handle this as peacefully as possible.’

“Alright everyone follow me, we will go help your Uncle, Loruk. But we cannot afford another War. Stay behind me and do not attack unless I say to. Understood?”

A series of ‘Yes My Lord!’ resounded.

[So, what exactly is the plan here Rick? You want to handle this is as peaceful as possible, but if they’re already aggressive that might be a bit hard to accomplish.]

‘Well, you’re not wrong but I have to at least try. And my plan is simple, just going to run in there and yell at them to stop. If I have to break a few bones to get them to back off then I’ll do just that. I’m not expecting to form peaceful relations here, I just want them to allow us to leave without a fight.

‘They can even escort us to their borders if they want. And since I know for a fact that this General Lago is at most Tier Five, then the people chasing him couldn’t be higher than Tier Five themselves or he would already be dead.

‘I’m hopeful this situation can be even a little salvaged, if not then I promise to put my everything into running away and preserving this oh so important life of mine.’

[That last line sounds a bit odd. Is there something you want to address there?]

  ‘No, I’m fine.’

  [Understood.]

  ???

General Lago and the Wood Elves that were chasing him hadn’t stopped for even a second, they had continuously gotten closer while Ra ran back to the group, and even during the time it took for Rick to hear the report and make a decision.

Due to that, it only took about 30 minutes for Rick and his group to not only hear the commotion but see everything that was happening in the distance.

A large Hobgoblin was being chased by about 15 Wood Elves. There was one Elf in particular that was leading the charge from the front and Rick could immediately feel great power wafting off of him.

But not more than he could output himself.

Rick immediately began releasing the presence befitting that of a Royal Goblin in the area, and a heavy weight promptly descended on the approaching Elves.

It not only caused them to pause but even General Lago did the same. His eyes widened with shock and an unclassifiable amount of reverence filled his gaze shortly after. He had almost unconsciously dropped to his knees in that very moment but managed to hold himself together.

In that moment of pause from the Elves Rick quickly closed the remaining distance and planted himself in between the Elves who were all too shocked at the rapidly changing situation and General Lago who practically ignored the presence of everyone else as he repeatedly came close to losing himself in the magnificent figure of his Future King acting on his behalf.

Rick didn’t have time to pay attention to that though and once he had the attention of the Elves, opened his mouth to speak.

“Stop! We are just trying to pass through your lands! We don’t want to fight nor do we have any problems with your people! Please just let us leave and we will be gone before you know it!”

The shock the Elves faced reached a whole new level as they heard and…understood the words that Rick spoke. That a Goblin spoke.

The leading Elf finally snapped out his confusion and stepped forward aggressively.

“Wretched Goblin. You speak our tongue. Explain at once.”

It was at that moment that General Lago snapped out of his own reverie and he immediately stepped towards Rick and had all the intention of moving in front of him to protect him.

Though he had to abruptly pause his steps when Rick raised his hand signaling him to stop.

“I’m going to ignore your words in an effort to broker peace. We don’t want any problems with you or your people. Let us leave and that will be the end of it.”

The Elf’s face scowled in anger as he responded.

“Answer my question you vile creature before you lose your head where you stand.”
