141. In a Blink (Book Three)

It took everything in Rick’s mind and body to restrain himself even further and hold back from responding in a way that would elevate the conflict between him and the Wood Elf.

But he didn’t have time to calm himself down further because the Elf hadn’t stopped talking.

“Are you deaf Goblin? Answer my question.”

“…You questioned why I speak your tongue…so I know you can understand me. We will leave your lands immediately. We have no problems with you, or your people and we don’t want any. Again, you can even follow us to your borders just to ensure we leave as we said we would.”

The Elf paused as if hearing what Rick had to say for the first time since this conversation began.

“Leave our lands? Receive an escort? None of that will be happening. You and the rest of your vile kind will either die today or be captured for questioning. Now one last time. Why do you speak our tongue?”

“I don’t why I speak your tongue, but I can promise you this. Before one of my Goblins is captured or die, your head will be separated from your body. All we want to do is leave, allow us to do so and there will be no need for fighting.”

The Elf flared with anger for a moment and was getting ready to give the order to his Elves to attack. But before he could even get the words off, Rick spoke up first.

  “None of you attack.”

That was meant for the Goblins behind him, and they knew it, but the Wood Elves thought it was referring to them, but again Rick’s actions were faster.

The leading Wood Elf was already within a step of Rick, and it was one that Rick crossed in barely a blink.

Rick reached out to snatch the neck of the Wood Elf, but although the Elf was startled, he was still a Tier Five equivalent, and he reacted quickly. He stepped back from the hand of Rick and yelled out a shout.

  “Kill them all!’

The Elves reacted immediately as trained soldiers were expected to and weapons were raised and mana was roused, again Rick was quicker.

His presence slammed into the group heavier than what they were feeling now and he practically rendered the entire group immobile. The leading Wood Elf tried to fight back against it, but how could he ever compare to the might of Royalty?

Rick who never paused in his steps, continued his actions towards the Elf and without a single major attack being fired off and the Elf’s left arm ended up in a vice grip of Rick, which was followed by his feet getting swept up from under him and it all ended with the face of the Elf being slammed without mercy into ground.

A loud thud resounded in the area and Elf grunted in pain. His left arm was pinned behind his back, and he was firmly planted in the ground.

It all happened in a flash and by the time it was over the silence that reigned for a moment seemed to scream louder than anything else.

Until the pinned Elf himself started screaming and trying to free himself.

  “Release me!”

The Wood Elf roared, and a wave of brown mana quickly began rising up out of him for a moment until Rick activated his own and quite literally set him aflame for a quick moment.

The Elf shouted out in pain, but Rick shouted above him.

“Look! I could kill him, but I didn’t! We do not want to fight, nor do we want war! Call someone above him here!”

The Elves were at a lot as to what to do at this point. They wanted to attack, but with their leader pinned to the ground, and Rick’s presence weighing down on their shoulders, there wasn’t much else they could do.

Eventually one of the Elves decided to place the call in himself, struggling to lift the device to his mouth and raised the alarm adequately.

This action caught Rick a little off guard because he was kind of expecting to see someone struggle to get up and run off for help. Or maybe even fire some kind of emergency beacon.

Anyway, the call was placed and al they would have to do now was wait.

The Warden was the position that was in charge of the Wood Elf Military in regard to protecting their lands. The full title of the position was “Varethil Thandor Liasante”. It translated to “The Warden Shields Liasante”.

It was a prominent position, and the responsibility was heavy on the shoulders of whoever bore that title. Especially now when Wood Elves had to be prepared for a war with humans that could potentially start at any point.

And although it wasn’t the highest position of the Liasante military, since the Warden was only responsible for the protection of the Nation, it was still one where only very few people could give the Warden orders.

So when she heard the report of a Goblin overpowering one of her commanders she didn’t hesitate for a second to rush in the direction the call came from. Only the she wasn’t rushing from the confines of her office.

It was form a nearby part of the forest, and although she hadn’t left any orders for the Wood Elves she was standing near, they did gathered themselves and promptly headed towards her.

Within the group though, two of the Elves were currently actively using their mana to carry two large objects with them.

In fact it wouldn’t be right to just refer to them as objects since they were actually bodies.

The bodies of two Tier Five Goblins.

And while they were not dead, they were unconscious from being beaten and lightly tortured for information regarding the mana signature the Elves found.

Of course the interrogation went nowhere, because neither side spoke the language of the other so it was mostly pointless.

Though one could only imagine what Rick’s reaction would be when he finally saw the bodies of the Goblins and the state they were in.
