Some distance away from the Liasante Nation…
POV Rick
“How are they?”
“My Lord, their wounds aren’t too deep, and I don’t see any signs of poison. I believe after some more rest they will wake up. It is mainly exhaustion that is keep them asleep at the moment.”
“Good, I’m glad they’re fine and hopefully they wake up soon. Thank you Ulgri for checking.”
“Of course, My Lord.”
“And you…General Lago correct?”
‘Oh, he’s dropping to his knees now…’
[You should have expected this. Rogu did the same thing.]
‘Yeah he did…’
“I humbly greet…the esteemed one. My name is Lago, and I serve as a General in the Central Clan. My sword is your sword, and my body is your shield.”
‘Esteemed one? That’s different. And the hesitation before saying it, like he wasn’t sure about who I was.’
[Hm, perhaps he isn’t? Just ask him.]
‘Yeah why not.’
“You can stand General Lago. Though I’m a bit curious. I haven’t heard the esteemed one title before, where did that come from? And why did you hesitate in saying?”
“Sir, forgive me, but I believed it would be wrong to refer to you as your rightful title while still so deep into enemy territory. You never know who is listening.”
‘Well now I feel a bit bad for doubting him. And he’s right, who knows how the Elves would react if they knew the Goblins were calling me Future King? Or even Lord? But…there’s something else I don’t get.’
[The language right?]
‘Exactly. Why could they not understand each other? We spoke to the Fox and the Serpent just fine, even the Orcs were understandable. So why couldn’t the Elves understand the Goblins and vice versa?’
“I understand and thank you for being mindful. But I have a question for all of you. Just to make sure, nobody could understand the Elves but me right?”
The Goblins looked around at each other before turning to Rick and telling him no.
“I figured…but I don’t understand why. Loruk, all of you could understand the fox, the serpent and even the Orcs back in the Nameless Forest right?”
“Yes My Lord, but it wasn’t that simple.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“The Orcs spoke in the tongue of Goblins, so we were able to understand them without much issue. Though it got complicated when it came to the Fox or the Serpent. We didn’t understand them word for word but we are able to receive and understand the intention behind whatever they said and through something we don’t understand it was translated in our minds.”
‘What the hell ???
‘Velora, so he’s saying that this entire time that I’ve conversing and understanding everyone as if they were speaking English, the Goblins were going through some sort of system translation ritual?’
[Well that is actually very interesting, and it’s something we would have never realized without being told as everyone speaks the same language to you. You will likely never been in a situation where you cannot understand the other party, but as a consequence you won’t be able to teach anyone else or truly understand the ins and outs of a language if you chose to do so.]
‘I am not too upset about the potential consequences, but it’s interesting to hear about all about this. Communication is very important and although a bit of violence and aggression was used with the Elves, at the end of the day it was open communication that got us out of that situation.’
[That is an important point to notice. Remember not to forget it.]
‘I’m aware.’
“Thank you Loruk, I get it. Now back to you General Lago. Why are you here in the forest of Wood Elves?”
“Esteemed one, it is in search of you. Some time ago, a message was received stating your current situation and all of the Chiefs deemed it necessary to send reinforcements just to make sure you made it to the Clans safely.”
“Ah I see. Was it only the three of you who came?”
“Yes Esteemed one.”
‘Okay good, so they hadn’t lost anyone.’
“Esteemed one, do you mind if I asked a question?”
“Ah sure go ahead.”
“I see some of the members of the Royal Retrieval team here, but I don’t see General Rogu and a few others. Are we meeting them somewhere else?”
‘So it’s finally here. I have to explain to General Lago, then likely the other two and eventually the rest of the Clans about the deaths of Rogu and the others. But of course it had to be done.’
“No General Lago, they will not be meeting us anywhere.”
???
Rick then proceeded to explain to Lago about what happened and how the other members of the Royal Retrieval Team died.
He didn’t explain everything from Rogu’s arrival till that fateful day due to how much time would have been required to explain it, but even then that was only a small reason. Rick only wanted to tell the full story once if possible.
That was a lot of painful memories he would be subjecting himself to more than once, which is something he wanted to avoid.
Though he did have to repeat his words about them dying much sooner than he thought. The two other Tier Five Goblins groggily woke up after some time.
And after a few moments of checking on their statuses and verifying that they were okay, they were quickly brought up to speed and more introductions followed.
Mogal and Trago. The only two Generals of the Shadow Clan.
Both of which were saddened by the death of the members of the Royal Retrieval team, in particular Kris and Krel. Two young elite and rising Goblins that likely would’ve been the next pillars of the Clan.
Of course they didn’t blame Rick for this. Not one bit. In fact they even felt proudness, that two of their own had died such meaningful deaths. Dying in a battle against someone stronger than all of the Chiefs back home to protect the Future King.
What more could they ask for?
So while they mourned, they also felt proud.
After that discussion and a few more minutes to rest, the group discussed what would happen from this point onwards.
Which was a very important discussion when one remembered that the lands of humans would be next. And if there was a humanoid species more adverse to Goblins, it would have to be humans.
Careful considerations would need to be in place.
Like what to do what in the situation the group got found.
In that case there was one thing clear. Rick could not be captured at all costs.
No matter what happens, Rick could not be caught or killed. So much to Rick’s dislike, more sacrificial plans were draw up just in case something happened.
