147. Nothing Happened? (Book Three)

  Eventually the group departed.

Mogal and Trago led the group from the front with Rick just behind them while Loruk and the others surrounded Rick. Lastly Lago brought up the rear.

If Rick was barely fighting before then he wasn’t fighting at all now. He literally didn’t have to lift a finger.

This is what it meant to travel with three Tier Five warriors as guards.

It even got to the point where Rick complained once because he needed to grow stronger, but he was promptly reassured by General Lago especially that there would be plenty of fighting to come in the Dark Lands of Mir.

Apparently the fighting there never truly ended and the Goblin Clans were constantly defending their homes from the never ending horrors that called the Dark Lands of Mir home.

Rick would not only be free to fight to his heart’s content in the Dark Lands of Mir, but it would also even be a blessing to have their Future King on the front lines with them, especially since he would be supported by thousands of Goblins warriors.

Despite the constant fighting, there would technically be no safer place for him.

So Rick was forced to swallow his complaint for the moment and allow himself to be protected like the Goblin Royal he was.

Of course, if he truly wanted to fight then the Goblins wouldn’t stop him, but he knew they enjoyed their roles as protectors and chose to just go with it.

  And the traveling continued.

Eventually they reached the edge of Demi-Human territory, and before them stood a raging river with one singular bridge to cross it and of course the camp that Rogu and the others had wiped clean all those months ago.

It was the first point of potential conflict that Rick discussed with his traveling party and what they would do should humans be present in the camp.

But upon approaching the periphery of the camp and doing a few scans as secretly as they could all of them soon realized that the camp was empty.

Cautious was their approach to the camp and the bridge not too far from it, but as there were no signs of humans anywhere near the camp, the caution appeared unwarranted, but that didn’t mean they would drop it.

It was day time at the moment, and although the scene was clear, they would still be easily spotted as a bunch of green creatures running across the bridge.

The group waited in the nearby forests until night came so that they could move under the cover of dark.

Night descended and there still wasn’t any signs of humans and thus they crossed without much issue.

After that they become even more cautious as they traversed the lands. Human lands.

From dodging caravans, moving around remote villages, avoiding young and old adventures alike in the woods. Though the hardest situation that Rick wasn’t prepared for at all, was ignoring a young tribe of Goblins they came across.

The tribe only had about 20 Goblins, but the strongest among them was only Tier 1. It reminded Rick far too much of the tribe he woke up to on that fateful day.

A tribe of about 20 Goblins, and 1 Tier 1 Goblin leading them. Jaba was the first one he thought about after laying eyes on the tribe, then came Geedi, Tars, Dal and of course others.

But he had to tear his eyes away from them and move on.

Although he wanted to stop by and bring them all along, it would be impossible to travel with them, so it was better to leave them.

If he completed everything he needed to do in the Dark Lands of Mir then not only them, but every Goblin on the continent would have a home at that point.

  So he pushed on.

Days and weeks eventually passed and they soon neared the borders of the Enargo nation. Not the biggest on the continent, but the biggest one that the Goblins had to directly pass through.

Thankfully Teral still possessed the device that would mask their presence. For some time.

Ulgri was picked up by Rick and they all ran like their lives depended on it. Which was necessary because it did.

Long story short…nothing at all happened.

For the entire rest of the way, nothing of significance happened.

Unlike all of the trouble that they faced in the lands of the Demi-Humans, they practically coasted through humans lands.

Of course, they were plenty of times they had to hide and a few close calls but no fighting or any direct interactions with humans happened.

They moved undetected and continued on their way North and eventually West towards the Dark Lands of Mir.

At least they thought they were undetected.

“Sir. The Goblins have left our borders.”

“And were you able to get eyes on all of them? Particularly to their upper bodies?”

“We were able to see all of them Sir, but one of them was covered from the neck down. We weren’t able to see his skin and thus couldn’t verify if there were any strange markings present.”

“Continue following them. Then station a few people outside of Mir. Be sure to remind them not to enter, that place isn’t somewhere that humans should dwell.”

“Understood Sir. Are we still maintaining a posture of no contact? It would be far easier to capture the Goblins and get the information we need.”

“Yes remain in the shadows. It is not yet time to draw the ire of the dwellers of Mir. The Goblins are nothing more than pest, but they block the advance of the true terrors of Mir. That is the sole reason why they are allowed to exist and we are not eradicating them for passing through our territory.

“Until their roles as cannon fodder for the beings that dwell in Mir is no longer necessary, then a scant few of them can be allowed their lives.

“They cannot grow past Tier Six anyway. Continue watching them as before and do nothing. If strange marking are present on any of them then report it immediately. Dismissed.”

  “Yes Sir.”

The subordinate left to carry out his orders as directed, while the man who gave them stayed behind and thought to himself for a few moments.

‘Hm a potential Goblin King then? I could use that…’
