Well, well, well, as it turns out, this world is truly not fair at all. I've suddenly unlocked a new living trade by just existing, apparently. This Appraisal skill is supposedly very valuable for two main reasons in this world, as it turns out.
The first thing that you will notice is that knowing the stats before a battle is useful as it can help you gauge your chances of winning, of course. The second valuable thing about it is that it can detect and classify different mineral ores or materials at once, making it the perfect skill for a jeweler, seller, or appraiser, which is such an easy job.
The best thing about having this skill in this medieval world is definitely the opportunity to make a buck just by existing! I am already making bank by offering appraisal services right outside the Chief's house once he spread the word that I have infinite appraisal skills.
The job is super simple as well. All I have to do is touch whatever the people want me to appraise and then either display the information to them through a hand hologram or read them the information from the top of my head if they don't know how to read! It's so easy, and yet I am making a lot of money over here!
Apparently, those one-time appraisal stones are so expensive that it's far more reasonable to pay me quite a high amount just to appraise their stuff. I mean, how is that now crazy!? The currency in this world works pretty much as you'd expect, with many people paying with either copper coins or whatever else they can pay with, to be honest. So far, the craziest payment I've gotten is an entire cow for two appraisals.
What the fuck am I going to do with a cow you ask? Well, as much as I would love some tasty steaks, I think that milk production will be much better if you think about it. It's crazy to believe that one mid-quality appraisal stone still costs more than a full-grown cow, but hey, I am not complaining!
If the people around the town and surrounding villas think they are getting a good deal, who am I to contradict them? Am I right!? The Chief, for his own part, has been pleased with me, and so has my father, after he recovered from his injuries. As to how I got my dad to forgive me, well, I just let him drink some fresh milk from the cow I now get every morning!
My mom still refuses to talk to me, but as long as I am on good terms with my dad and the Chief, I don't think I need mom for much, not to be dismissive, but it seems like women have hardly any political or leverage power in this world, so why even bother? Gosh, when did my mentality shift like that? Is this brain doing something to me?
Meh, who cares! All that matters is that I am becoming incredibly wealthy, and I am still six years old and have only been alive in this world for three months! If I were to write my own story, I would say that it's going pretty well so far! I never knew it would be so easy!
"Yeah, this is the real deal, mam. It is indeed 24 karat gold and weighs precisely 256 grams," I responded to one old sweet lady who wanted to make sure she hadn't been scammed, albeit the scammer was sitting right before her very eyes, charging outrageous prices for single appraisals!
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
"Thank you, young man. It's so useful to have an appraiser so near town! Now, here is your payment!" the old lady says as she quickly pulls out a pair of handcuffs and rapidly places one into my right hand, the one I used to give her the necklace back. "Eh? What are you doing?"
"What am I doing? No, no, young man. I think it's better to ask, what are you doing doing illegal business in the kingdom of Novacrono?" The old lady, now suddenly turning young again, scares the shit out of me as guards dressed in peasant clothes reveal themselves from within the Appraisal waiting line.
"Hey, hey! We can talk about it, right? I am sure you guys don't wish for anyone to get hurt!" I respond to the now young looking lady who tries her damn best to pull me from my ass without much luck as I simply watch her. "How are you!? Ugh! Stop resisting arrest and surrender peacefully, or you will be punished!"
The young, buff-looking lady now seriously puts her entire weight on my arm, still failing to pull me toward her at all, until I simply respond by pulling her toward me with ease, simply humiliating her before everyone else to see. "Ma'am, I don't know what you're trying to do, but if you think these things can hold me back, then you're sorely mistaken."
I respond to the young military lady by easily snapping the cuff off my right wrist, leading to an escalation of force from her reinforcements. "Leave lady Vittoria alone, you filthy bastard!" One of the unknown guards follows up on his threat by launching a spear right at me, and I respond by just dodging out of the way since he was so damn slow or at least he seemed slow when he attacked me.
"Hey hey! If I am doing illegal business and whatnot, would you at least care to tell me about the law before you try to kill me?" I bark back at the soldiers who now look at me like I am some sort of super dangerous criminal, since they are shaking in their boots after my quick thinking.
"Get Sir Galliger! This brat is a Galliger-level threat! Come on, get him!" The now injured young lady screams at her soldiers as she tries to hide her broken nose, which I hardly had anything to do with since I just pulled away from me, not even punched her or anything.
"Okay, well, whatever this Galliger is, can we at least leave town so we don't destroy people's houses?" I responded to the guards' and the lady's frantic words by just walking away from town, since whatever they wanted to do clearly involved destroying things near me, which would be irresponsible.
"Hey! Hey! Where do you think you're going? You are under arrest!" The young and quite beautiful soldier yells at me, followed by her guards running in front of me, so I can't take more steps away from the Chief's house, or at least they thought so, as I just keep walking.
{Sigh} "Alright, fine. I surrender, just don't destroy these people's properties." Honestly while I felt the urge to be a rebel and beat everyone's ass seeing the rest of the people hiding and many more running away finally forced me to take in the peaceful route out as well as I knew.
I could totally beat every single soldier before me and the lady behind me. Still, it would probably lead to the destruction of many houses, and after seeing how hard their lives already are, would I really make it harder for them? No, it's best to let go and take the L just this once.
So, without further ado, I simply turn around and put my hands behind my back, slowly walking backward toward the guards until two of them finally grab and handcuff me with so much unnecessary violence I regret surrendering for a second. "Hey! Was there a need to push me like that?"
"Get this tax evader out of here! Now!" Tax evader? Oh! Oh, that would explain the immediate action from the kingdom, of course! Murder might be prevalent, but there's no pay for solving a murder! Collecting taxes, however! That's instant justice! Ah, just like back home!
