Chapter 77: Countermeasures

After speaking to Jason in the sky for a while, Rulu returned to the armored vehicle with C.C., the sphinx, and A-Niu. He asked Captain Guan to keep a constant watch on General Li's situation.

A few minutes later, the communicator transmitted Captain Guan's surprised voice: "Um... Commander, General Li just contacted me saying something strange happened on their end. He said the Sanctuary forces there have stopped attacking them for some unknown reason."

"Stopped attacking?" Rulu thought for a moment, then said: "The Sanctuary forces must have withdrawn. Contact General Li immediately and tell them to break through with full force and evacuate Blue Sea City."

"But why would the Sanctuary forces withdraw?" Captain Guan asked puzzlingly. "Could it be a trap? Maybe the Sanctuary forces are pretending to withdraw to lure General Li into action, then attack them."

"No, the Sanctuary side already had the upper hand. There's no need for them to do this," Rulu said with certainty. "Tell them to move quickly. If they wait until the Sanctuary redeployes, breaking through won't be as easy as it is now."

"Alright, I understand," Captain Guan acknowledged and contacted General Li's troops again. After a while, Captain Guan's joyful voice came through the communicator: "Commander, you were right. For some reason, most of the Sanctuary forces have withdrawn. The remaining Sanctuary forces can't withstand General Li's troops' attack. General Li's troops are now advancing quickly toward the northwest. It seems they'll be able to leave Blue Sea City soon."

Rulu said in an extraordinarily calm tone: "I knew it. I anticipated that the Sanctuary would withdraw their troops."

Hearing Rulu's confident and calm voice, Captain Guan was quite puzzled: "But... Commander, what method did you use to make the Sanctuary forces withdraw? You've been with us the whole time and didn't do anything. How did you manage it?"

"Don't ask about that. What matters is that our objective has been achieved."

At this moment, the bald man with the scar's voice came through the communicator: "I guess it might be related to what the Commander said to the sky. The Commander must have found some leverage against Governor Su Wen and used it to pressure him, forcing the Sanctuary to withdraw."

Other rebels also said: "That must be it. No wonder the Commander has been so calm all along. He had planned everything. Our concerns were unnecessary."

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

"Haha, General Li's side can break through smoothly, and we've rescued all the captured prisoners. Our operation has been a great success! Haha!"

All the rebels were smiling with joy, immersed in a happy atmosphere. At this moment, Rulu's cold voice spoke up: "Don't be too happy yet. This isn't over. There are definitely large Sanctuary forces pursuing us now."

The bald man with the scar smiled and said: "Oh, it's fine. We're about to enter the underground tunnel. The space in the underground tunnel is so small, it can't fit too many troops. Even if they catch up, they can't do anything to us."

Rulu said: "What you can think of, can't others think of too? If I'm not mistaken, the Sanctuary will definitely send troops to block all entrances and exits of the underground tunnel to prevent our escape."

The bald man with the scar paused for a moment, then said: "No way. Blue Sea City's underground tunnel has so many entrances and exits. How can they block them all? And if they really blocked all the underground tunnel entrances and exits, what would they use to fight against General Li's troops?!"

Rulu said: "Have you forgotten? The Sanctuary forces on General Li's side have already withdrawn. Guess where those withdrawn troops went?"

The bald man with the scar, upon hearing this, became a bit panicked: "You... you mean the Sanctuary forces are all coming to surround us?!"

Rulu said: "That's right. If we enter the underground tunnel, it's like entering a cage. We'll be trapped and unable to escape."

Captain Guan hurriedly said: "If that's the case, we can't enter the underground tunnel. We need to change our plan immediately."

Rulu said: "It's fine. We'll proceed as planned. Besides escaping through the underground tunnel, we don't have any other way to safely leave Blue Sea City."

Captain Guan said: "But Commander, didn't you just say the Sanctuary would block all entrances and exits of the underground tunnel? If we enter the underground tunnel, aren't we walking into their trap?"

"I'll find a way to resolve this issue. You just need to do as I say."

The bald man with the scar laughed: "Haha, Captain Guan, don't worry. Since the Commander says so, he must have made thorough preparations. As long as we follow his arrangements, we'll definitely be able to safely leave Blue Sea City, right, Commander?"

Rulu said: "Not necessarily. I can't fully guarantee you'll be able to leave Blue Sea City. At most, I have a fifty percent chance."

"Fifty percent?" The bald man with the scar was taken aback, mumbling, "Fifty... fifty percent is actually not bad. It should be fine."

While Rulu was talking with Captain Guan and the others, the rebel convoy reached the underground tunnel entrance and entered it, beginning to travel through the tunnel.

After the convoy had completely entered the underground tunnel, near the exit inside the tunnel appeared a masked person in black holding a silver staff, a green-haired woman, a four-armed bull-headed man, and a sphinx monster.

"Hey, Rulu, why did you ask us to stay here instead of going with the rebels? Is there any special reason?" C.C. said to the masked person in black. Since all the other rebels had left, she directly addressed Rulu by his name.
