Chapter 51: New Gear

Walter scratched his chin, waiting for my response, “Well? What do you think? Not girly enough for ya?” He started to chuckled manically.

  Damn, I hated him.

“Uh, what am I supposed to do with this?” I grabbed the pink and teal lingerie with my fingertips. My eyebrows couldn’t furrow anymore without them ripping from my forehead.

Walter grinned, “Well, put on a show, what else?” He started ughing, quickly filling the small room with his hoarse coughing.

I tossed the underwear at him, “Fuck you, gross old man.” Truth be told, I wanted that underwear. It was pretty sexy.

“No, no, no…” He gasped between breaths, “I’m joking.” He finally subsided, regaining composure. “What I really needed to show you was this.” He dipped under the table and emerged with a vest in hand.

It looked like an old denim vest, something people on Earth used to wear a long time ago. Patches covered the vest, with a rge logo on the back, something I hadn’t a clue about.

“A vest? A denim vest? That’s what you wanted to show me?” I rose an eyebrow in skepticism.

“What!” He shouted while shaking the vest, “This is from the band Meow Growl, a vintage punk vest I found buried in the weapons depot. This shit is ancient! It’s lucky it survived all these years.” Walter held the thing in his hands like it was his first-born child. “To even hold a piece of memorabilia like this, is, is, untold of now.”

“Yeah, so what? It’s a vest, I was hoping for something a bit more…useful? Something that can help me kill the Gellys in a better manner, or something to squash some Corpo skulls, not just a…vest.” I shrugged. I was a bit disappointed in Walter for this one.

“Bitch, please.” He thrust the vest into my hands, “Look at the material, feel it out, rub it down. What is it?” His eyebrows shot up, waiting for me to respond.

I grabbed the vest and took a closer look. It was heavier than I thought, thicker even. “Is this…”

“Kevr synthweave with graphene nanowire interwoven into the material, yes, yes it is. A rare specimen indeed, but what takes the cake is what’s written on the inside of the colr, check it, girl.” He pointed ungently, barely containing his excitement.

I rolled my eyes, “Alright, what is it.” I flipped the vest around to see the colr. My eyes went big. “What the fuck?”

“Normally, I’d keep something this special to myself, its worth a god damn first born child, but when I saw that, I had to give it to you. It’s fate, my dude. Meow Growl just knew you’d need it one day, to squash Corpo skulls, of course.”

I read the word over and over in my head, wondering who and how this go there. The writing was faded and worn, just as old as the vest. Vixie. My name was right there on the colr, calling to me.

“This shit will stop any bullet bsted your way. Whichever bad bitch was wearing this back in the day must have needed something heavy duty for what they were up to. They must’ve had some serious connections. Now, you can carry on the tradition. Just, you know, don’t get shot in the arms.” Walter shrugged before grabbing my remaining power gauntlet, “Which brings me to this guy. It still works. Not as fancy as two of them, but hey, anything is better than nothing.”

The knuckles were still scrapped and dented from the contact with the Missionary’s armor. Memories came flooding back to me. The near death, blood everywhere, the loss of hope in the face of something terrible, it was awful.

“Anything else?” I had to move on from the subject.

He spped down a pair of knee high, thick bck boots, “I was able to save your boots from the skin suit and pce them in these bad boys, simple but effective. They’re your size. And of course, some weapons.”

He pced down some auto pistols and some magazines. They weren’t as great as my st ones, but beggars can’t be choosers. He spped down a small tanto knife, still in its wooden sheath. I never really used knives before, but it was worth a try. Walter was right, too, I’d have to spend a huge heaping amount to get my things back to working order.

“The vest has a anti scanner function too. Pce the guns and knife on the inside and you’ll be good. All this will fit under your worker jumpsuit. So, don’t worry about getting in detected.” Walter spped his hands down on the table, “And that’s about all I can do right now under the time constraints. I’ll keep working on your suit, see what I can salvage and fix.”

I scooped up the pile, “Thanks, Walter, I owe you a ton.” At least now I had a bunch of new toys to py around with. It was time to suit up and meet the boys at the unch bay. We had a new mission. I felt like I was working towards a bigger goal now.

I had to save this shitty little moon, so they future generations here could make it a glorious moon for all time to come.
