Chapter 43. Shopkeeper (Tuor)

Tour was seated on a couch inside a really fancy room. It was illuminated the same way as the Trial rooms, but this one was fully furnished and it even had a few doors. He was in an area exclusive for him as the Shopkeeper, waiting to be called to help any Trial taker.

Tour was thinking about the previous days that felt like a rollercoaster. This was supposed to be a short and easy job that lasted one month and had a good payout.

It was supposed to be a reward for a quest he did reasonably well in and that would allow him to get about 12 Trial Coins to spend. His shop was a little bit different and he didn’t have the option of getting items at a bargain like the cheap version of the Language understanding Trait, but even just the System healing pills were a huge profit for anyone.

The System pills were really special. They were linked to you and as long as you are the rightful owner, then they will work within your Rank, no matter how high it gets. That means that they are an extra life that you can even use in a far higher Rank than when you get them.

Of course, he could also get other rewards that were no less impactful of his future and much more unique.

The month started just as he expected: getting bored with repeating the same things again and again. At the moment he knew that this made him look like a robot, but at the start of the quest he didn’t even know what a robot was.

He did realize from the beginning that the integrated planet was a wired one. The people were far too educated and reasonable. But then again, all integrated planets had their perks. He knew that this one didn’t have any World Energy, so it was logical that the culture was different. What he didn’t know was how different it really was, or how it would impact him personally.

After a few days in the Trial, he met the outlier. The lucky one who was also known as Emilio.

Tuor was called to assist him in the same way he had been called dozens of times when someone finished the Trial, but all he found was an unconscious man on the floor.

This in itself was already an irregularity. The System fully heals any Trial taker and the man being unconscious meant that he went beyond his limits in the Trial, fully exhausting himself to the point of needing to rest even after the System healing.

Many people like to say that they train to their limits, but in reality it was something really hard to do. Doing it means going against the very instincts of your body with raw willpower and winning against your nature. The fact that the man did it made him worthy of respect even if he was still a Rank 1.

At the same time, the man had stayed inside the Trial for several days, which meant he couldn’t have done badly. He still didn’t know just how good his results were, but he should have earned at least a few points.

Tuor watched when Emilio woke up confused and was ready to guide him. His predisposition was a little bit different than with anybody else, but it was something unconscious. This meant that he didn’t seem robot-like, all because Emilio had earned a little bit of respect with his effort.

That was also the first time he was really surprised in the Trials. After a few seconds of confusion, the very first thing this human actually wanted to know was his name. Even if he had a thousand questions to ask, he considered that the name of the shopkeeper was the most important question.

In the hundreds of Trials he had assisted, only a handful asked for his name and no one did it in the same way as Emilio. The man was rightfully confused, given what the world he lived in was going through.

It didn’t take long for the Trial taker to understand how to use the Trial Coins, something that had happened with everyone on the planet and it was quite surprising to Tuor, but not as surprising as what came next.

The second thing Emilio did after asking for his name and understanding a bit about his context was to tip him a Coin, instantly raising his predicted rewards by almost 10%. Not only that, but he also tipped him another one later and even made his niece tip him 3 more as an apology for how she treated him, even if Tuor didn’t think it was that bad.

This was not the only surprise that Emilio brought him. The man was quite talented. Nothing abnormal, but enough for him to stand for himself.

The surprises came from what he learned from the man and he was quite shocked by how his world worked. The technology he talked about seemed fascinating and even more if there was a way to combine it with the developments in World Energy that the rest of the Realm use.

The second time he met with Emilio, he came with a proposal for cooperation. To fulfill what he asked if they somehow managed to take control of their planet was not a problem, but the chance of that happening was really low.

That made it a real problem. If they failed they wanted the Zane clan to sponsor them, while at the same time keeping their freedom. This was really expensive and Earth would have to prove themselves for this to work. Emilio seemed convinced about having what it took for the deal to work, but he had yet to prove it.

Tuor was surprised to find himself rooting for Earth in this matter. Not only did he want to see how the technology worked, but he also found a new friend and wanted him to succeed.

It was really exceptional for someone of his Rank to befriend a Rank one, but this guy was kind of talented and he had a chance to reach his Rank in the future.

Also, Emilio was lucky, really lucky. Just thinking about how lucky he was made him feel disgusted. Even more, the fact that he was actually befriended could also be considered Emilio’s luck.

If Emilio could keep his streak going, he might even surpass Tuor. For real, how much luck could a person get?

Even more, Tuor had now to think how to effectively use the rumored Soul Contract Skill that was still at Rank 1 to make a real deal between Earth and his clan. Thinking about the things he was allowed to do and what he wasn’t allowed, he really wanted to be able to leave the Trial for a few days and come back, but the System doesn't work like this. He was stuck there for the whole month.

Come on, does his luck have to be that overpowered? Even for my whole clan that skill was just a rumor, Tuor complained, but he couldn’t complain too much given that whatever the result was he was going to have access to the skill via his friend.

Tuor kept thinking about the possibilities of the Skill, having a little bit of envy to his friend and he was interrupted by the notification about someone coming out of the Trial.

It should be his niece, she is the only one left. Maybe I can tease her a little? After all she is Emilio’s family and should not take it too badly.
