“I understand that the Bloodlines are really rare to the point of being absurd, but are they any good?” Amelia asked.
“A rank 2 Bloodline would let you get 11 points in each Stat, and every Rank above will let you get one more.”
“So a Rank 4 would be 13 points? It is good, but not as much as you make it be. It is just a 30% increase.”
“That is only in Rank one, but in Rank 2 it will be 30% again when you already had the previous one, so it will be a 70% increase. Each Rank would keep building over the previous one.” Tuor explained.
“Ohh, now we are talking.” Amelia started to understand the true value of the Bloodline. “So the next Ranks will also need 10 Points?”
‘Can I answer?’
- No
“Can’t answer that. Is not linked to the Bloodline purchase.”
“Ok, either way what you said is enough. I will buy the Rank 4 Bloodline.”
“I’ll process it, but just to make it clear in the same way I did with Emilio. Do not tip me anymore. I am doing more than enough with the commission this time.”
‘Trial Taker Amelia Castro wants to buy a Rank 4 Bloodline.’
The moment Amelia accepted the purchase she could feel several changes happening in her body and she sat down on the floor to try to feel what was happening to her.
Tuor couldn’t see anything in her, but he knew that a Bloodline was a profound change to any being and it would not be as simple as having a pop up window saying she can upgrade her Stats more.
It took a few minutes for the upgrade to finish and for Amelia to open her eyes.
“I am really able to keep increasing my Energy beyond 10. Too bad I didn’t have it before or I would have been able to keep going in the Trial.”
“You wouldn’t have had the Coins if you didn’t do well enough,” Tuor pointed out, “It might also be the System way to acknowledge that you could keep going in the Trial. After all, you can upgrade your Energy even more now.”
“It might be. Now that I have the Bloodline I should have no problem in assigning my points, right?. I plan to give three to Energy and four to Body to reach the new cap. What should I do with the other two?” Amelia was not asking Tuor because she knew he couldn’t answer, she was asking herself as he was thinking about what to do. “Rafael and Gabriela said I needed to take the Mind Trial next, so I might as well put them there.”
As she was about to start assigning her points, Tuor noticed a problem in what she said. If she wanted to do the Mind Trial next it was better for it to be as small as possible for her to get better rewards!
The moment he realized about the issue, he started coughing, begging for Emilio to have talked about this interaction with his niece for her to understand.
Sadly, Amelia noticed the coughs, but didn’t interpret them as a warning sign. She just kept assigning the points as she said, without bothering with what the man was doing. It took her some time, especially since her gun kept upgrading, but finished assigning all her points.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
“Tuor, why did I need more points to get a Skill?”
“Oh, I forgot to tell you about this. Each point after 10 works differently. There are several parts of the benefits of the Stats that are considered to peak at 10 and every point after that counts less to that purpose. One of these things is Skills.
“After you pass the 10 point benchmark, you will need 10 points to get a new Skill. Of course, if the points you assign are for Stats with less than 10 still give one Skill every five points.
“Other examples of improvements that slow down after 10 points are longevity and sleep reduction.”
“It makes sense, thank you. Does that mean that the Stats after 10 are not as valuable?”
“No, they are just as valuable. It might be less of an increase in some things, but not in most. At the same time, it is an increase that most people won’t have, making it key for the long term.”
“Gotcha,” Amelia nodded. She planned to take full use of the really expensive Bloodline she had earned. This time there was no way in hell she could be considered less of a talent than Emilio.
“One more thing,” she added “Can I have some kind of training machine that can withstand my strength? I am tired of hitting the air and given what the Body Trial was, I really need to practice. Especially now that my gun will work as expected.”
“I can check it out, but are you sure? You have enough for the Language Understanding Trait.”
“Look it up. There might be something that is not that expensive, and I have more Trials to take, don't I?”
“You do have some trust in yourself. You know that talent between Stats is independent, don’t you?”
“I didn’t, but I am sure that with my new Skills I would have done much better in the Body Trial. So I think I can get more coins.”
“That’s your call and I will wish you good luck” Tuor said, thinking that she might be right. The Stat talent might be independent, but Skills might be helpful in all of the Trials and they might help her out.
‘System, can she buy any training equipment that can withstand her strength?’
Tuor shared the list with the girl and he advised her on the items. “Let me be honest, they are not worth it. These things are cheap outside, and there are priceless things in the shop.”
“But I need to train, don’t I? I have teachers, but I can’t hit anything without breaking it.” Amelia pointed out.
“I get your point. Then get the one with the lowest cost. You will have your chances to train and fight in the future.”
“I will trust you on this one. Give me that one and add the Language Trait. At the very least, I have enough for both.”
‘System, Trial Taker Amelia Castro wants to purchase a Basic Rank 2 Training dummy and the Language Understanding Trait.’
Now, that is a normal amount of Coins for a transaction. It is even a big transaction, but I am beginning to lose my sense of normalcy here.
“What is this?” Amelia asked, looking at a little marble that appeared in front of her.
“That’s the Dummy. I guess you don’t want to leave the Trial carrying a full size dummy, so it is stored by the System. You can crash it to take it out once you are where you need it to be.”
“Cool, how does this technology work?”
“Not with technology for sure, given what your uncle told me. But I can’t tell you anything else.”
“At the very least this confirms you have your own developments even without technology. I think I will leave for now. Thank you for everything and sorry for acting out because of my name. See you in a week.”
Amelia disappeared from the Monolith before he could correct her about the date, it was not going to be in a week, but in a few days.
She will find out sooner or later. For now, I have better things to think about than that.
He had to think how this deal with Emilio was going to work. Being in the family of a talent like Amelia was very beneficial for his part. Especially because they seem to be really close. This ‘easy job’ he had taken from the System was going to bring him headaches for the years to come. At the same time, he was going to earn quite a lot.
