Chapter 45. Chances (Tuor)

Tuor did some quick math with the prices and realized that most integrated planets would have at most one or two people with Bloodlines unless they are really lucky. For a planet like Earth, the statistics said that there would be about 100 persons and most of them could just afford a Rank 2 Bloodline. There might even be a few that could afford a Rank 3 Bloodline and maybe a single one that could afford a Rank 4 one.

These numbers were not something to underestimate. The fact that people from a Rankless planet could have so many people with a Bloodline was really outstanding. The higher the Rank of the Bloodline, the more outstanding it was. Especially if someone managed to get a Rank 4 Bloodline.

As a matter of fact, the chances were in Earth’s favour and there was someone who could afford it. Not only that, but he was attending her.

“I have found what I was looking for. You should buy it before assigning the points,” Tuor advised.

“What is it?” Amelia asked, full of curiosity about what the shopkeeper was going to offer her.

“Do you know how I said that normally the maximum Stat value is 10? Well, that is not always true. The offsprings of powerful people might be lucky and inherit some of their residual talent and get something called a Bloodline.

“Being children of powerhouses is the most normal way of getting them and the way most people who have one get theirs. Besides that way, there are some really rare and expensive treasures that might give a Rank 2 Bloodline or even increase its Rank, but all I have heard about them is rumors.

“At the same time, there were rumors about them being the peak System reward. Apparently, that rumor was true and the System considered you exceptional enough to get one.”

“That seems nice, how much does it cost?”

Tuor shared the System provided table and Amelia was surprised at their cost. One had to earn 7 points in a Trial to even afford the cheapest one and they had to spend almost all of their coins. The price was even bigger for the higher Ranked ones.

Even with her earnings she could barely afford a Rank 4 Bloodline, and she had earned 9 Points in a row in the Trial.

“They are expensive!” She complained, “Are they really worth it?”

Tuor was shocked at her reaction. A Bloodline was one of the most valuable things one could get and it was a matter of having powerful parents and a huge amount of luck. As for the treasures to get one, he had never seen one at all.

“Yes, completely yes. I might have not made it clear just how rare they are, or how valuable. Someone with a good Bloodline will automatically become a talent to be nurtured.”

“But didn’t you say that the children of powerful people have it?” Amelia asked.

“I said that if they are lucky they can have one. Someone at Rank 2 has a 10% chance of leaving the Bloodline to their children. If only one parent passes down the Bloodline, it gets averaged and rounded down. That means that a child between two Rank 2 only has a 1% chance of getting a rank 2 Bloodline.

“Even if the parents have a higher Rank, it does not get much better. Any person with a Rank has a 10% chance to leave that Rank Bloodline and a 10% chance to leave each of the Bloodlines of lower Rank.

“A child of two rank 5 has a 1% chance to inherit a Rank 5 Bloodline, a 5% chance to inherit a Rank 4 Bloodline, 8% chance for a Rank 3 and 3% chance of a Rank 2. The rest 84% of times are without a Bloodline. Do you understand how rare it is? If you purchase the Rank 4 Bloodline you would be like a really lucky heir of two rank 5.”

“That’s quite harsh,” Amelia admitted, “And it makes them quite rare, but it still shouldn’t be too bad. I mean, if everyone can raise their Stats and Rank up it there should be a lot of people with Bloodlines.”

System, can I talk with her about the proportions of Ranks in the Realm? It has to do with explaining the rarities of Bloodlines.

Tuor smiled when he got the approval. He wanted to talk about that with Emilio before but he couldn’t. The difference was that with Amelia’s ability to purchase the Bloodline and the fact that she had purchased the ‘shop items details’ before, he couldn’t assist her properly without explaining the restricted information.

“I had to get the System approval to talk about this,” Tuor said, gaining the full interest of the girl. “In any normal planet, the proportion of people who can do a full Rank up is 1000 to 1.

“Knowing this number, you can consider that the proportion of Ranks 5 to the normal population is one to a trillion. We were talking about the children of two Ranks 5. Even if they have 3 or 4 children, they might still not get any with a Bloodline. That means that you might need quite a few trillion people before that happens.

“That means that there might appear a Rank 4 every several trillion people at the very least if we consider Ranks 5, and that only happens if the kid is lucky and manages to hit the 5% chance. Even if we consider that the parents are Rank 4, you might need several hundred billion people before finding one with a Rank 4 Bloodline.

“Do you now understand why it is outstanding to have one in a planet with only 8 billion people? Actually, given the normal averages, the price of the Bloodline is quite cheap in the Trial Shop.”

“Wow, those numbers are much higher than what I expected, how many people are out there?” Amelia asked.

“I have no idea, but much more than what you or I can estimate.” Tuor answered in full honesty. The answer to that question was not something he had the ability to know.
