Miri casted Meteor Impact, summoning a large rocky meteor that was about to collide with the chimeragon. However, before it was able to do so, the chimeragon was somehow able to perceive the attack in time and quickly move to the side, avoiding the falling meteor. Miri casted two more Meteor Impacts, but the beast was able to dodge those as well—swerving away from one meteor after another with the grace of a feline despite its enormous size.
What?! How is something so big also move so fast?! Mir thought, feeling frustrated that none of her Meteor Impact spells were able to land a single hit. That is just overpowered as hell! Devs, please nerf!
As the creature evaded those meteors, it simultaneously began moving closer to the two women, likely aiming to engage them up close with its savage claws. Right as the beast lunged towards them, Miri decided to switch to another spell in the heat of the moment.
“Crescent Arc!” Miri called out, unleashing a wave of teal energy at the beast.
The arc of energy hit the creature right as it was in mid-lunge with its claws extending outward. The spell was able to push the creature back slightly, but it wasn’t enough to completely negate its lunging attack, causing one of its sharp claws to graze Miri’s left forearm and leave a bleeding cut.
“Oww! Shit!” Miri cursed upon getting slashed.
“Miri! Are you alright?!” Anne asked with nervous concern.
“Yeah, just barely,” Miri replied. In that brief moment, she saw the opportunity—the chimeragon had moved towards them and thus had moved away from the door behind it. In addition, the chimeragon was briefly stunned from the Crescent Arc. That was the opening they were looking for. “Come on, Anne! Hurry!”
Stolen novel; please report.
Grabbing the cleric by the hand, the mage ran a couple steps to her right in order to get a better line-of-sight before casting Traversing Wind to teleport both of them towards the exit. At the end of that teleport, there were only several meters away from the exit itself. However, right as they were about to go through that door, Anne was being forcibly yanked back all of a sudden, letting out a terrifying screech as she did so.
Miri turned around and was shocked to see that the tail of the chimeragon—the one with a snake’s head at its end—was able to extend itself towards them and wrap itself around Anne’s legs, pulling her backwards. Anne screamed as her body was being dragged across the library floor and closer towards the chimeragon, her fingers futilely scrapping across the floorboard.
Thinking on her feet, Miri quickly fired a Chill Orb—a spell that fired a single ice-elemental projectile—at the snake’s head, remembering that, in the game, reptile-based creatures were particularly weak to the ice element. That attack ended up being quite effective despite being targeted at a part of an otherwise powerful creature, causing the snake-headed tail to flinch away and release its grip from the cleric.
However, the chimeragon was not done fighting and proceeded to perform another lunging attack, which Anne quickly blocked with her Protective Ward, forcing the creature to bounce backwards from the recoil. Then, after steadying its stance, the chimeragon began charging up for another tri-elemental blast—the mouths of all three of its heads began gushing with their own respective element.
Miri hurried towards Anne to help her up from the floor. Both of them saw the chimeragon charging up its attack. In the heat of the moment, Miri considered her options. She could perform another Traversing Wind, but they might not make it in time to get out of the library. Besides, it won’t stop the chimeragon from continuing to pursue them. Eventually, they were going to tire out and the beast was going to catch up to them. However, so far, none of their offensive options seemed to be very effective—
Then, all of sudden, she got another lightbulb moment. She kicked herself for not remembering that she even had that spell to begin with. It would have been the perfect counter for this specific situation. A spell that could absorb an enemy’s elemental projectile attacks and send it right back at them—the more damage it absorbs, the more damage it deals.
