Chapter 4: Gaia, part three (13)

  …

The sun was shining above her head. The street below her feet was warmed from the sun. The meal that her mother had packed her was heavy in the five-year-old’s hands. All in all, the day had set out to be a good one. Yet, something was off with this day. A bundle of nerves somewhere in the white-haired girl’s mind was stopping her from enjoying this day.

The building in front of Vistilia was rge. Almost too rge for the setting that she found herself in. It was the school, in the center of the city. The school had three sections to it.

The first one was ground floor area to the building, and it was where all the first through fourth years went. It was ft, with windows letting the sunlight into all the school rooms. It was a rather nostalgic feeling, looking at the area where she herself would be learning.

It was also made of stone. With extra thick walls built to keep the heat in the building itself. So as to make sure that the children wouldn’t get cold in the harsh winter.

The second section was the area for the fifth through eighth years went. This area was tall. With three stone floors, supported by columns that went up all the way that section of the building. It reminded her of a college, in the way that colleges reminded her of ancient roman architecture. Windows also lined the walls of this section of the buildings.

The st area was for ninth and tenth years went. The section only had two floors, yet it was also rather wide. Almost as wide as the first section for the little kids that she would be going to. The walls were also lined with a lot of windows. To many for her taste, that is.

All the different sections had different hallways and straight up buildings linking them together. It created what could only be described as an abomination of a building. Of course, that was how the founders of this city liked it. This thing, and the multitude of other buildings of learning just like it, were the oldest buildings in this city.

Vistilia took a breath of air and let it out. The day was just starting. There was no need to be nervous for this day. After all, Gaia was going to be there with her. Gaia knew some of the kids that were in the css. Mainly because there was a daycare-like service where one could drop off their children while said parent goes to work or does other such things.

There were three ways into the building proper. One such way was the entrance for the first section, then an entrance to the second section, finally a entrance to the third section. All in all, she was making this harder than it should be.

She stepped forward, holding her prepared lunch in both hands. The first entrance was a simple thing, made to be able to be opened by even small children despite its size. The rge wooden doors opened as she pushed her way through. The halls greeted her, the halls and a door that led to the director’s office. The school didn’t have principals. Instead, they had directors.

The halls went to the left and right. The one to the left went off into the cssrooms and general area for the first through fourth years. The right hallway went into the area for the fifth through eighth years. In front of her was door to the directors office, in all its dark oak glory. She was pretty sure that’s what the wood type was anyway.

She looked around the area. She had been told by her parents that the school hours started at about 9:00 am. Yet, there was no one here. She had even asked Gaia, she had confirmed it, along with the maid that Vistilia still didn’t have the name for. It was truly weird, to not see any kids in a school.

It seemed to her that she was either too early or too te. Yet, she was led to believe that this was correct hour that she was supposed to arrive here. So, as she looked around the area, searching for anybody that could lead her to where she was supposed to be, she looked to the director’s office. It was a rather obvious thing to do. So, in hindsight she felt a bit dumb.

Yet, as she went to the door and stepped inside the room, she could feel eyes on her person. She into the room and noticed the woman in the front. To her left right were two doors. The one on her left had a sign above the doorway that read, “Director of Putloeyk.”

Vistilia assumed that this meant elementary, or something simir as that was the side that faced the way to the younger years. The other door simply read, unisex toilets. She earned a tilt of her head. She didn’t know that that word existed in this world yet.

“Hello, miss?” Vistilia asked as she approached the desk with the woman sitting behind it, “I’m here as a first year. Where do I go? Where is everyone else?” she asked, het tone calm.

  …

The woman looked at the girl in front of her. She was so small, so precious. She loved being the receptionist for the first years and the like. They were all just so adorable. It made her slightly jealous of all the women who could be mothers, but she digressed.

The young girl in front of her had just asked a very serious question, and she was just about to answer it. She opened her mouth to speak. Her voice ced with gentleness.

“You a half an hour early, sweety. You first day starts at 9:30, instead of 9:00 like normal,” she expined, “what is your name, little one? I can tell you your css number,” she said.

She nodded her head, and told her, her own name. Her voice was just as bnk as always. She smiled as she listened to little girl.

“My name is Vistilia Daughter of Leris,” she said, clutching her lunch to her chest as she rocked back and forth on her heels.

The woman at the desk looked down at the papers for the first years that she was just in the middle of sorting, and saw her name right away. Her brows rose as she looked at the address below the sketch of her small and young face. Below her name and all the direct information, it belled the secondary information.

In that area of the page, it listed that her father was the new overseer of the western guard. That was a rather prestigious position. In fact, it was so sought after that she was surprised that they weren’t dead already by assassination.

“Just go to room one dear,” she said, pointing out the door, “It’s at the end of the hall on the left of the entrance,” she expined, and the little girl nodded her expressionless head, and moved her adorable little feet out the door.
