  Chapter 23: Creepers Be Damned.

  ~~~ [START]
  In a cafeteria, seated amidst an army of teens.
  “I actually got the invite,” Jessica whispered as she sat on a seat.
  “No way!”
  “Sheesh!” Jessica silenced Angela, who, in all respects, wasn’t even loud. “The walls have ears.”
  Angela bent closer. “Gina allowed it?”
  “Allow? She gave me the invite herself.” Jessica laughed while slumping backward in her seat.
  “So…?” Bella, who was seated beside them, raised a brow. “Am I also supposed to hear this or… should I just leave—”
  “Leave? I got you an invite too, you’re coming,” Jessica said, grabbing a spoon filled with wasabi and eating a mouthful. But she gagged, and Angela laughed beside her, saying words along the lines of, ‘I told you it didn’t look like guacamole.’ “We almost never get invited to parties. But this year will be different.”
  “Party?” Bella frowned when she said the word.
  “Yeah, Gina always hosts a house party every year,” Angela said while sipping her juice box. “And we, for some unknown reason, never get invited.”
  Bella raised a brow. “What, does she hate you or something?”
  “No—” Angela tried to speak—
  “Yep.” But Jessica cut her off. “She wrote a newspaper article claiming Gina was a slut.”
  “I didn’t say that.” Angela’s shoulders lowered.
  “Okay, miss four-eyes, but calling female dancing prostitution isn’t the way to do it.”
  Bella’s eyes widened. “Prostitution?”
  “I called it sexual.”
  And on the other side of the room, seated in cold silence—
  “Did you see him?” Rosalie asked, hands raised to her chin, with her elbows inclined on the table for support.
  “No,” Edward replied, eyes turning away from glancing at Bella, who was too busy talking about prostitution to notice his glance. “But his truck is here.”
  And Edythe, who was seated beside them, leaned backward onto Jasper’s chest, who later kissed her head when she slumped deeper.
  “Why does it matter anyway?” Rosalie hissed. “You heard what happened yourself; we die.”
  Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation.
  “Shh.” Emmett put an arm around her shoulders, then moved his mouth closer to her ear. “Maybe you shouldn’t say that so… freely—”
  “Freely?” She shot a glance at him, her hand lightly pushing him back. “He kills you.”
  And Emmett blinked. “Don’t—”
  But suddenly, they all turned their heads to the door. Because unexpectedly Alice walked in, for some reason smiling, while she hurried toward their table.
  “Why so happy?” Edythe couldn’t help but ask.
  “No reason,” Alice said, taking a seat, then grabbing Emmett’s platter and using a fork to play with the food.
  Rosalie frowned when her eyes trailed on Alice’s smile; it felt insulting. And Emmett grunted beside her after she stomped on his foot.
  “Sorry,” Emmett pleaded, his head falling atop one of her shoulders when he whispered.
  But she stomped his foot again, and this time, a scream seeped past Emmett’s lips, causing everyone, including her, to chuckle in giggles.
  {ELSEWHERE}
  Troy frowned, his brows raised. “No.”
  “No to what? The party or prom?”
  “Both.”
  Gina pushed Troy on the chest, her nose fuming with steam, but he still didn’t move; he just chuckled under his breath when she started brushing her palms together because of the pain.
  “You’ll come to my party,” Gina demanded, then turned to Honey, who was approaching from beside them. “Can you believe it? He says he ain’t goin’ to prom.”
  “And to your party.”
  Then Gina kicked him on the calf part of his leg, but shot screaming while raising her leg because of the nearly broken bones in her toes.
  “You’re not going to prom?” Honey couldn’t help but ask.
  Troy shook his head. “I just got here, woman.”
  “You’ll come to my party, nerd!” Gina screamed from the floor; the pain in her toes was too unbearable for her to stand straight.
  Honey stepped closer, unintentionally causing Troy to move a few feet back.
  She smiled. “Want me to use my other ‘want’?”
  “Please don’t.” Troy sighed when he said it. “You only have 1 left.”
  “It’s two,” Honey said, moving, then handing him her bag, which he carried without complaint.
  And Gina gagged when she got up and straightened, then moved toward the cafeteria as they followed behind her.
  {MOMENTS LATER}
  “Get the fuck out of the way.” Gina didn’t want to entertain Tyler, who was walking backward, staring back at Gina.
  “Don’t do that. I know you love me.” Tyler chuckled when a faint smile embraced her lips after he said it. “So?”
  Gina pushed the cafeteria’s doors, sending them flinging open. “So what?”
  “The party?” Tyler asked, dabbing up Troy while kissing Honey’s hand after faking a handshake.
  “No?”
  “Come on.” Tyler ran toward her. “I didn’t even get an invite last year.”
  Gina halted and turned back. “That’s because every time I do, you end up cheating by making out with some bitch random girl in my room!”
  “Random?” Tyler asked with a whisper, noting the many laughs and ears around them. “Shilla was a supermodel, and I only did it because you were blushing around with Que.”
  Both Honey and Troy moved around them, then walked to a table closer to the doors.
  “Baby, listen.”
  Gina shrugged Tyler’s hand off the moment he tried pulling her closer.
  “Look,” Tyler said, his voice softening. “Ask me to the party, and you’ll be the only bitch I’ll pay attention to.”
  She sighed under her breath.
  “Come on.” Tyler tried again, this time moving his hands to her figure and softly pulling her closer. “Ask.”
  Gina tightened her expression, trying with all her might to hold back the faint blush on her cheeks.
  “You comin’?” The words slipped past Gina’s lips, more as an inevitable whisper than a question.
  “Bet,” Tyler replied, chuckling when Gina shrugged his hands off and walked to Troy’s table.
  But when he turned, what Tyler saw next puzzled him.
  Everyone, from his friends to the Cullens’ table, was staring at him. And maybe that was the moment he realised something absolute.
  That the walls were listening.
