55. Do you have evidence?

I wanted to leave school quickly, but the gates were closed during school time. That meant I had few options; Jump a fence, or go out through the front office. My physical condition did not allow me the prior, which left the latter.

I walked to the front office just as lunch was ending. I opened the door and began the procedures to check myself out. However, to complete the procedures I needed a parent or legal guardian.

I knew that would never happen, so I just walked out the front door. One lady sitting in the office yelled and tried to stop me. I just continued walking, but she ran out of the office to chase me.

Fortunately for me she was overweight and could not keep up with my slow pace. She eventually went back to the office, likely to report me.

Normally this kind of action would have consequences, however I knew what would happen in the short term future. I wouldn’t be the one facing consequences.

I considered who to call first; Jane, Greta, or Amanda. I needed to tell Jane the addresses of the two girls, but she was still in school. She wouldn’t be able to do anything immediately.

I needed Amanda to pick me up and drive me around, if possible.

I needed Greta for the report I was going to make.

I finally decided to start with Amanda. I made a call and luckily Amanda was free to pick me up.

  I then called Greta.

“It’s time.” I said over the pants of my breath.

“Okay, I will get ready.” She replied seriously.

“I will come to pick you up at your house.” I added on.

“Okay, do I need to prepare anything?” She asked with a hint of worry in her voice.

“No.” I replied before ending the call.

I then walked to the same park as our previous rendezvous, and got picked up by Amanda. I noticed she had bags beneath her eyes. I gave her directions to Greta’s house, and we began to drive.

“Are you pushing yourself for me?” I asked seriously.

“What do you mean?” Amanda asked with a smile, she was obviously trying to push off the question.

“You have taken care of me for two days in a row.” I began to explain.

“I just let you sleep, I wasn’t even doing anything.” Amanda replied.

“Did I make you miss work?” I asked. Amanda usually works the night shift at the hospital. That also meant she usually sleeps during the day. I was making her drive me around at the time she was usually sleeping.

  I really was selfish.

“No, I actually prefer my days off in the middle of the week.” Amanda said, but I wasn’t able to tell if it was a lie or not.

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

“I owe you so much.” I commented on my true feelings.

“Not really, your words have helped me greatly.” She said.

“That’s not fair.” I replied. She didn’t want a debt between the two of us.

Amanda grinned, and we spent the rest of our drive chatting.

We picked up Greta, who I introduced to Amanda. Amanda seemed uncomfortable with her, but she acted completely normal.

“Where are we going next?” Amanda asked.

“We are going to the news station.” I said.

Both of them thought about my words deeply, and guessed my plan.

We arrived quickly, Greta and I got out of the car. In front of us was a three story building with glass windows. Overall it looked very fancy, and cutting edge.

“Are you sure I can’t go with you?” Amanda asked.

“I don’t want you to face any consequences as a nurse.” I replied. Amanda nodded like she understood, but she looked disappointed. She could get fired or punished if she was found driving me around in my condition.

We walked into the building, and right in the front was a receptionist sitting at her desk.

“What brings you here today?” She said politely.

“I would like to have a meeting with a reporter.” I responded in a similar tone.

“Do you have an appointment?” She asked again.

“No I do not, but I assure you that this is very important.” I replied again. How could I make an appointment when I didn’t even know when Johnny would show me the papers.

“Please don’t,” The receptionist said tiredly, “I see kids like you everyday, they pull pranks or think they have something important, but they have diddly squat.”

“Is there any way to make an appointment today?” I asked, ignoring her comments.

“It depends, the reporter chooses whether or not you have a meeting.” She replied, all of her previous polite personality gone.

“Then can you call to see if anybody would meet with us?” I asked normally.

“Why should I? reporters aren’t interested in your poor story.” She replied.

“Are you sure about that?” I asked with confidence.

“Yes.” She replied without missing a beat.

“I forgot to introduce myself, my name is Azure Barrett.” I spoke with a bit of arrogance. Once she heard my name she flinched, and looked at me with fear.

My name has been in the newspapers a few times recently. To her I was a psychopath rapist.

She slowly picked up her phone, like she was afraid to make sudden movements. Slowly dialed a few numbers before finally saying, “Hello, Azure Barrett is here, and wants to have a meeting with a reporter.”

She slowly lowered the phone, and pretended to stare at the screen. A few moments were spent in this weird silence.

However a loud ‘ding’ ended the strained silence when the elevator opened and five people fought and scrambled out of the elevator. They each ran as fast as they could to me.

“Hello Azure, I heard you want a meeting with a reporter.” They each said with small variations.

“I do want a meeting with a reporter, however which of you should I choose?” I told them.

They each looked at each other and made a silent agreement.

“It would be better if you tell us what you want to meet with us about. That way the one with the best expertise in said area would be able to assess your needs in the most efficient way possible.” One man spoke for the group. There were a lot of words, but their meaning was simple. They didn’t want any risk, so I had to tell them about what I was here for.

None of that really mattered to me.

“I think that would be for the best, you all know about the recent articles framing me. However, they are all lies, not a single truth among them. I want to overturn all the controversy about my defamation and reveal the truth about what happened to me in the school.” I planned my reply very carefully. Leaving a small hint of mystery would definitely make a reporter curious. Leaving the bait of, ‘what happened at school’ would definitely catch their attention.

Three of the reporters looked unimpressed, two, however, seemed to catch onto my words.

The man who seemed to be the leader of the group looked at me with a smile.

“Do you have evidence?” I could tell he was excited by the implications of this article.

  “Of course.” I replied.
