Chapter 16

The carpeted arm disappeared around the corner slinking away with its kill

“ALASTOR, HELLP THIS MONSTER IS TRYING TO KILL ME!”

I turned bolting towards alexander's cries, within moments I slid into the living room; only to find him using the couch he had spent the night on as refuge once again.

running around it to keep the ‘monster’ on the other side; Her glare was full of murder and mayhem, if she had been thinking straight would have jumped the couch and had him already.

“Alex you little MAGGOT you bet the cars on FRIGGIN KELPIE the villain notorious for going out in a blaze of glory and failing to ever do ANYTHING much less win.”

She dashed around the sofa alexander responding just as quick insuring his continual survival “Look, i know your upset but the payout was massive and I had a good feeling about”

One of her chunky shoes slammed into his face with such unatural force that she had to be a xeno “A GOOD FEELING!” “YOU HAD A GOOD FEELING HUH” she leaned forward, hands clamping down on the back of the couch.

Then she went silent, her eyes darting down as realization filled both gazes, a predatory gaze in jessies and one of utter terror in Alexanders. She had finally realised the obstacle before her was just a couch.

  “Alexander and Miss Jessie!”

Alexander's gaze darted over to me while jessie’s was barely able to peel off her target, keeping him on the edge of her vision while still looking in my direction.

“Alatasor! Please tell her I can't get the cars back and I sold the one I had.”

“Yeah right you wouldnt give up one of your toys unless daddy made you, and FYI telling your butler to assure me of something is not assuring.”

These two were going to give me a migraine. “Jessie I am not alex’s butler i'm his case worker, and I can assure you he sold his Gemera I was present during the sale.”

The fire in her eyes seemed to dim a little “case worker? For what.”

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

“I can't discuss personal matters of my client that they themselves havent disclosed.”

Her gaze fell on alexander like a hammer “I got a loan for Summit Financial to start my villain carrier; and i didnt need as much as i originally thought so i might have bought the cars with it and bet the two i lent you to try and pay it off in one go”

Jessie's expression was caught somewhere between utter disbelief and confusion but alexander wasn't quite finished digging this hole.

“I know I should have told you but I figured with Alastor helping me out I could get you a new car as payment for the trouble before you really noticed.”

She did not take that well, that much was clear in her eyes, but I have bigger issues and my job does not include domestic peacekeeping.

“Before you two continue, I cannot and will not mediate this domestic behavor is not a part of my responsibilities to Alexander; If had still possessed eyes my gaze would have more than likely mirrored jessies as i faced alexander.

“I need to speak with, Riccardo please come see me when you have sorted this out.”

With that I left to the sounds of crashing and profanity, after all I had a clone's death to cover up.

The scene in the salon wasn't what i had expected there wasn't a pool of blood and visira but rather a grey slurry with the texture of glue or putty. Hopefully some strong cleaner and paper towels would get it off the tile.

The trail from there was surprisingly clean and somewhat difficult to follow teardrop shaped droplets every couple of feet led me thru the foyer and down the hallway towards my room until it vanished half of a still drop of the grey slurry sat in front of me the last in the grim trail i had been following.

“Well now what.” i found the carpet demon as Alexander called it or at least I think I found it; mabie i tried to talk to it, but it responded to a name last time “what was it, keven, carl, kreg.”

The creature rose from its hiding place rising seamlessly from the floor its hands and wrists coming into view as it rose until it was finally tall enough to spread it many arms out around it like a spider, they were humanoid with carpet for flesh and carpentry nails where human nails should be.

But the body was nowhere to be seen. “Did you eat the clone?”

The creature raised the front of the carpet as though it had understood me but it didn't stop. It continued to raise the front of the carpet revealing a featureless human head.

  “Mvaoei6ygnmy0,m8y.xz08ahf0874hm,q”

Its voice was nonsens, a random rhythm with no discernible pattern and a pitch that changed every time you tried to focus on it jerking from a high ringing to low rumbling bass tones that shook the case in my hand and everything inbetween, yet its meaning was clear to me not so much in words but rather like a assurance of knowledge; like knowing the sun will rise in the morning and set in the evening, no one had to teach you no one had to tell you anything more than the name for it, because on some level you instinctively knew without information and without understanding.

“Could you, clean up the mess it left?” for a moment the indents in its head where eyes should have been just met my own eyeless gaze.

“Iewohajfucpan” and with that it was off following the trail of slurry seeming to pull the drops up through its fingertips leaving perfectly clean carpet in its wake.

So with that taken care of I exited the front door trying to figure out how to make a car disappear but when I arrived the driveway was empty, hopeful that meant he took a cab and not that a second party had fled due to their own suspicion.

But as they say ‘never look a gift horse in the mouth’ so i headed back to the living room hoping alexander wasn't too beat up and we could go over the contents of the case and our current predicament.

However the last thing I expected was to walk back into the living room and find Alexander laying on the ground intimately embracing the woman who had truly wanted to harm him less than fifteen minutes ago! Lord, I HATE this case.
