“Before the duel starts I will explain the rules for Raia that has obviously never heard them.
You can use sharp weapons but no lethal strikes.
The area of the duel is this white square.
If you go out you lose, if you were to have your opponent's weapon at your throat or like in front of your heart you lose.
Any questions?”
“Yes, can I use magic?”
“Yes magic is allowed, you can't use offensive magic.
Anything else?”
“Yes, probably the most important thing, how do I know where the white square is?”
“Well that actually could be a problem.”
“Not necessarily, could I ask what type of magic you use, Miss Mira?”
“First no need to call me miss, officer will suffice.
Second, I use air magic.
Which I don't think would be useful.”
“No it's ok, air magic is more than fine, do you happen to know how long one of the sides of the square is?”
“Yes it's 10 meters, where are you going with this?”
“Well if you give me a minute you'll see.”
In front of everyone in the room Raia's mana flared and a few magic circles came to life.
After that Raia started removing parts of one magic circle to replace them with new ones, some taken from the other magic circles while others were created completely out of thin air, some were just removed completely.
The end result was a completely different circle.
“Perfect this should do, miss Mira please try this it should solve our problems.”
Mira looked incredulously at Raia.
She had the spell creation blessing, one of if not the rarest blessing in the world.
With luck only one person every five years gets the blessing and there have been times where one hasn't shown up in 20 years.
“Hm, hm Miss Mira are you still there?”
“Oh, yes sorry Raia I was just distracted for a second.
Before I try it, are you sure it's safe and you didn't make any mistakes?
I am not doubting you, but you just turned eight so you have at best 3 years of training so better to be safe than sorry.”

“Completely understandable.
Everyone is out of the square and since I have more mana than I know how to do with it, let's do some tests before we use it for the duels.
Could you please bring me to a corner of the square and tell me how thick the line is?”
After bringing her to the corner Mira said the line was 10cm thick so Raia activated the spell.
[New spell detected choose a name]
She chose [Perimeter]
[You learned the spell Perimeter]
After she chose the name the spell proper started running its course.
“I named the spell [Perimeter].
What it does is, you choose a shape mentally and then you give the dimensions of the shape and it will create a… wall, I don't know how to better describe it even though you can pass through, of a specified thickness and height made of the mana of the mage using it.
Once the contestants, fighters, or whoever has to enter does, you can block entrances but not exits unless the wall is dispelled or forcefully broken.
Before you ask, yes it can be used as a defence mechanism but you will need a lot of mana for that or mana stones cause like normal barriers if an attack uses more mana than the barrier then it will shatter so for duels or something of the sort I would advise the least possible amount to allow easy access to medical personnel in case of accidents.
But returning to the explanation, the impossibility to enter can also prevent cheating because if someone is still inside the wall even in the smallest sense they are still technically inside so they can pass through, only when someone is completely outside will the wall stop them from re-entering.”
The spell manifested as a greyish wall that stayed exactly over the line and spanned about 10 meters in height.
“Now to demonstrate a few things could you all please go to where the judges should be.”
After they all positioned themselves where she asked them she entered the duels area and made the wall impede everyone from passing through.
“Now you should not be able to go through normally.
Miss Mira, would you like to try?”
“Yes.”
She left the judges table and went towards the side of the wall they were on and tried to walk through but the wall felt actually solid not much to be fair she felt like that if she really wanted to she could have just forced her way through by just punching down the wall.
“It's not letting me pass but I feel like I could just punch my way through.
Is it supposed to be like this?”
“Well when I put the minimum amount of mana required for this dimension which is 10 points of mana yes I will feel weak especially when the element utilised is Antimagic which obviously doesn't offer the strongest physical defence.”
“Ok if you put it like that then it's truly a fantastic idea also you talked about being able to know if someone is inside or outside of the barrier how does it do that?”
“The spell knows how thick the barrier should be and if something coming from the inside of it diminishes that thickness that means that someone is on the border.
If then the border returns to the correct thickness because of two things: either the contestant has managed to return inside of the barrier or they have been eliminated and in that case they will not be able to return inside.
I will now demonstrate.”
Raia started walking towards the edge of the barrier and then started walking through it.
She stopped when only one foot was still touching the barrier.
Afterwards she walked back in and back out in various different ways always with less of herself inside the barrier and every time she was able to reenter.
In some cases she made the other kids that were still at the judges table try to discern if she was inside or outside and in some cases they judged wrong she was always inside apart from the last time.
“Am I still inside or outside of the barrier?” asked Raia to the other kids.
They all were a little bored of this game and decided to just go with “Inside", since she always seemed to want to demonstrate how little she can be inside of the barrier.
“Not this time my dear future opponents.”
Raia that was sprawled on the floor imitating someone that was blasted off the barrier after a hit moved the part of her body that was the closest to the barrier towards it and got stopped, she couldn't reenter so she got up and demonstrated how like Mira had done before she was blocked out.
“Now, I'm sorry for this long explanation but I think it was necessary to understand the spell and demonstrate that it's safe.”
She dispelled the perimeter and gave Mira the spell design after she promised to not show it to anyone till she releases it to the public.
“Now it's truly time for our duel Marcus, are you ready?”
“Absolutely”.
