Chapter 149: The Battle Between the Zerg and the Predators (Part 2)
…
It was unclear how long he had been unscious, but Big Nose eventually woke up groggily. He opened his eyes, then instinctively shuddered and tried to leap up. However, at that moment, he realized he had been ed to a stone pilr at some unknown time.
Moments ter, he heard Braided Hair’s voi his ear.
“You’re awake?”
Hearing the familiar voice, Big Nose breathed a sigh of relief. He turned his head toward Braided Hair, who was bound to a stone pilr just like him. In fact, everyone else around them was also in the same predit.
“Yeah, looks like we’ve been caught by those bastards,” Big tered.
“No.”
trary to his pint, Braided Hair shook her head with a peculiar expression.
“In fact, it’s not just us who’ve been captured.”
“Huh? What do you mean—”
Before Big Nose could finish his questiourned his head to s their surroundings. What he saw made his eyes widen in shock. All around them were individuals, simirly bound by s. Most of them were human, but there were also some humanoid creatures. Regardless of their identities, they were all tied up just like Big Nose and Braided Hair. Some had already regained sciousness and were shouting frantically, while others remained unscious, entirely unaware of their situation.
“What the hell is going on? What do those Predator bastards want with us?” Big Nose excimed.
“I don’t know… but it doesn’t seem like anything good,” Braided Hair replied.
That much was obvious. The number of captives in this area alone was in the hundreds. Judging by the distant shouts eg through the air, it was clear this was just one part of a much rger operation. Big Nose even suspected that the Predators had rounded up every living being on the p.
“No matter what, we o escape immediately!”
Although Big Nose had no idea what their captors intended, he was certain it wasn’t anything pleasant. He began tle against the s binding him. But before he could act, the room suddenly dimmed. The bright lights were repced by a dark red glow, and a pierg arm bred throughout the space.
“Beep… beep…”
“What’s that sound?”
The sudden arm made Big Nose uneasy. He turned his head, sing the room nervously, but saw nothing unusual. Just then, the floor in front of them split open, and several small stone pilrs slowly rose from the gaps. Atop these pilrs were rge, egg-like objects.
The “eggs” started to tremble before their tops cracked open with a low, creaking noise. From within, white creatures that resembled hands emerged, crawling out one by one.
“…I think I know why those bastards brought us here,” Big Nose said grimly.
As soon as he spoke, the white creature in front of him leaped from its egg, its finger-like appendages spreading wide as it tched onto his face.
In an instant, Big Nose’s visio bck.
Alex had no idea what was happening to Big Nose and the others. He was currently standing on a hill, his expression grave as he observed the battle unfolding below. The Zerg were swarmilessly, attempting to break through the Predators’ defenses and breach the gates ahead.
Alex had just learned from Ikaros that the location below was the rgest Predator base on the p. Faced with the Zerg threat, the remaining Predators on the p had all gathered here. Moreover, Ikaros had uncovered an arming piece of information from the Predator work—they were pnning to use a pary core bomb to destroy the entire p and wipe out the Zerg pletely.
“Warrior race, indeed,” Alex muttered with a heavy expression as he tio watch the brutal battle unfold.
When Alex received the intel from Ikaros, he was utterly shocked. Although he had expected the mission to be far from straightforward, this development was pletely beyond his expectations. If the Predators actually succeeded ionating the pary core bomb and blowing up the entire p, his mission would truly end in failure.
Thankfully, Ikaros had acted in time, severing the trol system of the core bomb and sealing off the entire lower level. However, the Predators weren’t ready to give up so easily. Acc to the intelligence Ikaros had gathered, they were pnning to manually restart the core bomb!
This felt straight out of a Hollywood vilin plot.
Alex couldn't help but feel like he ying the role of the vilin in a blockbuster, while the Predators were cast as the determined protagonists. Of course, there was no way he would let them succeed in their suicidal pns. Without hesitation, Alex ordered his Zerg army to locate the Predator base and un all-out assault.
Initially, the assault went smoothly. After Ikaros took trol of the base's defeowers, the Zerg swarm advariumphantly. But the Predators weren’t fools—they forcibly cut off the remote e and switched the defeowers to manual operation, successfully halting the Zerg's progress. While Ikaros could retake trol by physically accessing the towers, Alex decided against it. sidering her fragile bat capabilities, he chose to keep her by his side. After all, the Predators were merely making a desperate st stand.
With a deafening crash, the final defeower colpsed uhe charge of an Ultralisk. The Predator manning the particle on inside barely leaped out of the ruins before being torn to shreds by the overwhelming swarm of Zerglings. The t Ultralisk, over fifteeers tall, charged forward and smmed into the base’s reinforced metal gate. With a mighty swing of its head, its razor-sharp tusks sliced through the thick steel like paper, creating a massive opening. The waiting Zerglings immediately swarmed through the breach, flooding into the base.
“Let’s move,” Alex said calmly, patting Ikaros on the head as he desded the hillside. He was relieved that he had instructed Ikaros to lock down the self-destruct systems in all the Predators’ bio-impnts from the outset. Otherwise, the p would have been littered with mushroom clouds by now.
Now, Alex's primary goal was to locate the core bomb and disma entirely. Leaving it intact would be asking for trouble. Too many movies featured protagonists usiover ons from their predecessors to defeat the big bad, and Alex had no iion of giving future heroes that kind of opportunity.
As Alex ehe Predator base, the se before him made him frown. The entire base was dimly lit, with only emergency red lights flickering ominously. The resista the gate had been pletely overwhelmed, and the Zerg swarm was advang deeper into the facility. Surprisingly, Alex noticed through the Zerg work that the invading Zerglings faced almost ance. Apart from the Predators’ brave stand at the entrahe rest of the base was eerily quiet—there wasn’t a single enemy in sight.
What were these Predators up to?
Alex khe Predators well enough to uand that they never retreated without a fight. Why were they suddenly using ing tactics like baiting enemies into a trap?
Although suspicious, Alex didn’t slow his advahis wasn’t a movie, and he had no iion of foolishly sending in a small elite team to their deaths. Instead, he ordered hundreds of Zerglings to scout ahead, followed closely by Hydralisks and Iors spreading creep across the base. Alex refused to believe that the Predators could pull off any tricks against the overwhelming numbers of the Zerg swarm.
As expected, the enemy finally revealed themselves when Alex’s forces reached the sed level of the base. However, much to his surprise, the attackers weren’t Predators.
